We take note with regret of President Zelenskyy’s remarks in Belgrade reaffirming Ukraine’s non-recognition of the Republic of Kosova.
Since the first day of Russia’s full-scale aggression, Kosova has stood unequivocally with Ukraine. We condemned the invasion, fully aligned with CFSP, imposed sanctions against Russia and Belarus, provided humanitarian assistance and refuge for Ukrainian journalists, and contributed military assistance and training in support of Ukraine’s defence. We did so despite Ukraine’s non-recognition of our state, because solidarity with a people defending its freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity is a matter of principle.
It is equally important to recall a clear distinction: while Kosova has imposed sanctions against Russia, Serbia has not aligned with the EU sanctions imposed in response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
The Republic of Kosova is a sovereign and independent state, born from the struggle of its people for freedom and from their liberation in 1999 after years of systematic repression and the genocidal campaign of the Milosevic regime. What followed was not an act of annexation, occupation or territorial conquest, but a comprehensive international process under United Nations administration and years of internationally mediated negotiations on Kosova’s final status. When those negotiations had exhausted every possibility for an agreed settlement, UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari recommended independence as Kosova’s final status and presented a comprehensive framework for the new state, including some of the most extensive constitutional guarantees for non-majority communities in Europe. Kosova declared its independence on 17 February 2008 as the culmination of this political and historical process, assumed its responsibilities as a democratic and multiethnic state, and entered a period of internationally supervised independence. In 2010, the International Court of Justice confirmed that Kosova’s declaration of independence did not violate international law, while international supervision formally concluded in 2012. Today, the Republic of Kosova is recognized by the overwhelming majority of NATO and EU member states and has built its statehood firmly on the principles of democracy, human rights, peace and Euro-Atlantic integration.
For precisely these reasons, Russia’s attempts to invoke Kosova as a precedent or justification for its invasion, occupation or attempted annexation of Ukrainian territory are historically and legally false. No such parallel exists.
Kosova remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. At the same time, we respectfully but firmly reject any framing of the Republic of Kosova through the prism of Serbia’s territorial integrity.
We would welcome Ukraine’s recognition of the Republic of Kosova. Such a decision would strengthen the very principles of freedom, democracy and international law that Ukraine itself is defending today.
📍Republic of Kosova 🇽🇰
Less than 48h after the terrorist attack on Ibër-Lepenc canal, water supply for power plant has reached optimal levels and normal water supply for citizens of Mitrovica & Prishtina regions has been restored.
A great thank you to all who contributed!
Over the past three days our Police has confiscated a substantial amount of armaments, as pictured, which include weapons and grenades in the north of the country. Calls for inspection come from ordinary citizens who alarm the police. The safety of the people and the security of the entire country remain a key priority for our government, especially when facing such imminent threats to our collective security.
Electricity consumption in 4 northern municipalities:
1. Organised crime, drug labs, crypto mining, etc. flourish.
2. First results of rule of law (2022-3).
3. As of 1 Jan 24, after 24 yrs, cost of non-payment (€348 cumulative) no longer unjustly borne by the rest of citizens.
Eleven years ago today, a Lithuanian @EULEXKosovo Customs Officer, Audrius Šenavičius, was shot and killed in cold blood by unknown assailants in the north of Kosova, on the road between Zveçan and Leposaviq.
Like our national heroes Enver Zymeri and Afrim Bunjaku, Šenavičius reminds us of the great sacrifices that brave men and women have made to extend security and rule of law over the entire Republic of Kosova.
On this, the elevenths anniversary of his murder, we honor his memory, and we celebrate his service to our country and people.
With false allegations that Albanians are marching over the bridge, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic aims to create an atmosphere of fear and elicit a reaction from KFOR in Mitrovica, threatening that if they do not respond, Serbia will.
No Albanians are marching over the bridge, as he falsely claims. All plans to open the bridge have been intended to foster peaceful interaction between the two communities. However, these false allegations are often a precursor to a planned attack by Serbia. For the safety of everyone, they must not and will not be allowed to enter our territory.
A liar and a manipulator: Novak Djokovic says he was 7 years old when Serbia was bombed by NATO. He was 12. And he doesn't mention the reason for the bombs: NATO stopped a genocide by Serbia in Kosovo! This guy negates the worst war crimes in Europe after the Second World War.
2024 is the year of integration.
In just the first five months, over 7k RKS passports, 6.8k IDs, and 1.1k driver’s licenses have been issued in municipalities where the Serb community constitutes a majority. The conversion of illegal driver’s licenses into RKS ones is continuing and going very well. Moreover, 159 new businesses have been registered in the newly opened Business Registration Agency offices in the four municipalities in the north of Kosova.
This is the result of the constructive work between our government and our citizens, and the shared conviction that a united country is a strong country.
For 3 months, those with driver's licenses issued by Serbia's illegal parallel structures will be able to convert them to 🇽🇰 licenses.
In less than 2 weeks, 313 of our fellow citizens benefited from this opportunity.
I extend once again my invitation to all those eligible.
Straight from Milosevic’s playbook, Aleksandar Vucic, fmr Minister of Milosevic regime applying brutal methods to those admitting the truth of 🇷🇸’s crimes in 🇽🇰
Vucic is century away from accepting the truth of committed crimes, while endangers the existence of those who do ⬇️
Few things are more rewarding than being in the company of people who want to give back, who use their elevated position to extend a hand and help others on the way up. I had a truly enjoyable and productive conversation with @RitaOra and @TaikaWaititi today, on Rita's birthday.
The weaponry confiscated in the north of Kosova gives clear signals of the level of preparations for attacks & escalation from Serbia. The sophisticated mines & devices below are yet another proof. Any other evidence needed that we're dealing with well-organized terrorist groups?
More weapons were seized in the north today, giving an idea of the potential scale of the terrorist attack in Banjska. The danger is not over yet. I hope that everyone has now realised how dangerous the real escalator = Vucic/Serbia is.
We do not need another place of terror and war after the horror in Ukraine, Nagorno Karabakh, Israel. Therefore, the appeasement towards Vucic must finally end.
The sanctions against Kosovo must be lifted immediately and measures taken against Vucic that are so painful for him that he comes to his senses, stops his escalations and seriously works on a solution of the conflict.
Based on confiscated documentation, @Kosovo_Police have confirmed that the terrorist attack was part of a larger plan to annex the north of Kosova via a coordinated attack on 37 distinct positions. Establishing a corridor to Serbia would follow, to enable supply of arms & troops.
Vučić's close associate, Radoičić, has confessed that he led the terrorist attack on Kosova Police.
This confirms the evidence we have provided: the Serbian state is fully involved in the terrorist attack.
We call on the international community to sanction the Vučić regime.
Alongside its anti-terror operation, @Kosovo_Police has distributed 100+ food packages in Banjskë to the majority Kosova-Serb residents in the area, in addition to addressing other basic needs. I thank our citizens for their calm, prudence & trust. The Police are at your service.
These images confirm the direct participation of the deputy head of the Serbian List Party (LS), Milan Radojcic, in the terrorist attack against the Kosovo Police.
It is well known that LS and its leaders are under full control of Vucic and act as he instructs.
Kosovo Minister of the Interior Svecla spoke to BBC in the wake of the terrorist attack on Kosovo Police:
"What we want to do is make sure that everyone feels safe, that we provide rule of law and security for every citizen, regardless of ethnicity."
These military-grade arms & equipment—seized in @Kosovo_Police's anti-terror operation after yesterday's attack—leave no room for doubt: The perpetrators acted not alone but w/ state backing. Serbia must be held fully accountable for sponsoring terrorist violence on 🇽🇰 territory.
Kosova is officially the host of the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030. This is an extraordinary achievement. We look forward to hosting all participating countries and celebrating with the world! Congratulations to all!
