1/ One of the longest-standing misconceptions about the Punan in Sarawak is that they were nomads living in trees. At the recent Sarawak Book Festival, this myth surfaced again when someone asked, “Oh, are they the people who live in trees?” 🤔
@amrandika The sound correspondences are actually irregular. Tagalog merged *z and *d, so Malay j usually corresponds to Tagalog d (or l). so it actually does look like a borrowing. At least in Tagalog.
@csundita @oli_0331 ka:w is the regular reflex of *aku in Thai. Not totally sure of the history of ku: , but it could be an irregular historical variant.
