As of Monday, 2nd September there were still 126 children with SEN waiting for an appropriate school place, according to Dept figs. There should not be this scramble every year.
Dr Niall Muldoon, speaking at the launch of our #PlanforPlaces report in D15 this morning
Launch of D15 "Plan for Places-2 years On" by Dr Niall Muldoon Ombudsman for Children in Powers town Educate Together. Principal Helena Trench is the driving force in trying to develop a wider, long term strategy for school places for children with SEN.
When it comes to data collection, why is no one talking to the schools directly. Why can't schools give their SEN data to the Dept or NCSE? Why is there no mechanism for this? POD could be easily and immediately used if this were facilitated by the Dept.

@VirginMediaNews
@MarianHarkin 3/3 We sincerely hope that this motion being passed today marks a change in how the Department engages with school leaders & that positive change is forthcoming. Again sincere thanks to all. #UnitedForIntegrity

Shameful statistics. All the while schools try to do their best for all children, within a loaves & fish style SEN provision from the Dept & NCSE. Principals are trying so hard to have their schools accurately profiled for sufficient allocations but it is falling on deaf ears 😔

@simoncoveney@AnneRabbitte SOMEBODY take responsibility for this mess. @HSELive have been given 10 years to get ready for PDS and failed, another 2 years to try fix the CDNTs and failed. Take control, take responsibility and MANAGE THE CRISIS!
@AnneRabbitte gets frustrated 1 hr into a 2 hr meeting, imagine what EVERY parent feels dealing with them for years. @HSELive had 10 years to get PDS right before its roll out 2 yrs ago... their action plan in 2009 was another lovely Gov document with zero action!! #brokensystem
Where is the consistency in Special Schools provision of therapeutic services? SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TAKE CONTROL, ACTION AND RESPONSIBILITY!! The children and staff in ALL Special Schools deserve better. 1/2
