Because most people who use ChatGPT for their work are not seeing increased compensation with increased productivity. In fact, as productivity increases it mostly results in layoffs and work redistribution, so the productivity per capita increases and comp per capita stays roughly the same (OpenAI folks notwithstanding), but productivity overall stays the same and total comp overall is shrinking.

And if disposable income for regular folks is shrinking due to shrinking comp, short term response for consumer goods manufacturers is increasing the price and contracting the volume.
