I was surprised to see someone try to fact-check me with @grok on this, so let me explain.

Below is section 4 of Trump’s EO. As the truth comes out - that COVID was created intentionally in a lab, with the mRNA vaccines almost certainly developed at the same time - it should be clear how dangerous gain-of-function work really is. Despite that, Trump’s EO calls for regulation of gain-of-function work. The ban itself is limited and focuses on foreign countries.

By regulating gain-of-function work in this country, Trump made it absolutely legal. There was ambiguity before, but the order regulating it inherently accepts that it is being done, thus making it legal.

I’m sorry, I hate saying this, but yes, Trump absolutely made gain of function legal in the United States.
