This week I have my first (yes, first) meeting between my union and Vancouver Coastal Health, since the latter fired me after 13 years of employment this March.

I was fired once I was found guilty of unprofessional conduct by the BC College of Nurses.

I was found guilty by a panel of 3 women, 2 of them fellow nurses, for expressing my view (in my own time) that males are not females, and that women deserve our own spaces.

Wish me luck. I’m quite anxious. While there have been several lovely people within my union, they seem to get shifted away from my case. I’ve received perhaps less than the bare minimum support owed to me after paying union dues for more than a decade.

My background is littered with poverty and trauma. That includes watching my baby sister go into foster care after the death of my Daddy.

Thankfully, one of her placements was at Black Mountain Home for Children.

Of all the places my sister was placed during those years, Black Mountain was the only place that worked with me on visitation. They even gave me a room so I could be near her.
