Researchers at IIT Roorkee have uncovered a critical metabolic vulnerability in the multidrug-resistant pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii, offering new insights for combating antimicrobial resistance.
Led by Prof. Ranjana Pathania, with contributions from Avik Pathak and Dr. Snehlata Saini, the study published in mBio reveals how disrupting cysteine metabolism can significantly weaken the pathogen and enhance its sensitivity to antibiotics.
This research advances our understanding of bacterial survival mechanisms and opens new avenues for developing innovative therapies against drug-resistant infections.
