This year has been a mix of personal and professional adventures. Welcoming a new baby meant less social media, but as the year ends, I want to highlight some amazing work by my team at @YorkUScience. I am continually inspired by the work they do🧵1/
2023 #NobelPeacePrize laureate Narges Mohammadi’s brave struggle has come with tremendous personal costs. The Iranian regime has arrested her 13 times, convicted her five times, and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lashes. Mohammadi is still in prison.
Vibrations and solvent polarity can make a big difference in the photophysics of a molecule. With the framework we developed, the calculation of photophysical properties from molecular structures is streamlined and analysis is made easy with an interactive dashboard. #compchem
TODAY! Join us for a conversation between @carlsafina and @omarelakkad

So many people are hiring. I know.
BUT! If you are interested in coming to 🇨🇦Toronto🇨🇦 to start as staff scientist as part of the @acceleration_c with a focus on 💙polymers💙, please email me!
I am especially interested in mentoring women and will provide all the help I can!
We are excited to announce that Registration and Abstract Submission are now open on the ISNA-20 conference website: https://t.co/AaVKh6idmP. We look forward to welcoming you to Toronto next August! #chemtwitter#chemX
Looking for 1-2 undergrads anywhere in the world doing research in materials chemistry to interview about their research and where they see the future of the field going. Is that person you? Or do you know someone? DM me. @youinthelab can you retweet?
What's at stake when libraries are caught in culture wars? @ALALibrary executive director @TracieDHall1 & author @omarelakkad discuss the evolving role of the public library in the modern world.

On last week’s Without, host @omarelakkad imagined a world without Prisons.
When incarcerated author George Mesro Coles-El heard about our reporting for the episode, he conceived "What If?” — a story imagining an abolitionist future
Here is that story:
First post to celebrate my first conference and first win! So happy I got the opportunity to talk to so many other students who are just as passionate about their research areas as I am with mine 😊
Special thank you to the @tbaumlab for a great summer of hard work and guidance!
This morning Angela got to present a poster on her summer work at the @YorkUScience Undergraduate Research Conference! We love supporting our undergrads and checking out other great research going on in the department 🤓
8/1 @ 7pm — Simultaneously a coming-of-age story and a meditation on the state of the world. Class, power, politics, and desire meet in @lydiakiesling’s new novel MOBILITY. Joined in conversation by @omarelakkad.

On Without, host and journalist @omarelakkad explores all of the things we can't imagine losing.
Every episode is a thought experiment – what would the world look like if something we’ve become used to were no longer around?
