Professor #Hausman and Professor #Rodrik both teach at my current school #HKS and I had the privilege to take some of their courses. Very happy to explore more about this alternative theoretical framework which focuses growth diagnostic in Africa developed by an African scholar
Growth Diagnostic studies in Africa are dominated by the HRV (Hausmann-Rodrik-Velasco) theoretical framework, which is crucial for applied work by institutions like the AfDB. In my new paper👇, I argue that this framework needs serious modifications to be truly relevant for Africa.

This is the World we live in now!! So painful to read, man made tragedy, this should not be happening in the 21st century. WHY?

Brilliant observation. And I like the diplomatic tone “ Could be done quietly “, the way we do changes matter more than the idea itself. And your argument is on spot.
@solassefa@Awale11@Mustafe_M_Omer@addisstandard I suppose many people do, but that’s out of touch with Ethiopia’s current reality. I wish Woreda-level positions were filled purely on merit. This could be done quietly, and I’ve learned the hard way that those positions can make daily life either a living hell or much easier.
What is wrong with recognising this as a significant and historic achievement that an Ethiopian from Somali constituency was elected to the significant post of “Speaker of the lower house of parliament “.This must be celebrated & welcomed by all Ethiopians. The wait was very LONG
@solassefa@Awale11@Mustafe_M_Omer@addisstandard One of the most absurd narratives peddled by ethnonationalists is that meritocracy in the civil service & private land ownership would somehow result in Amharas owning the entire country. The idea of a level playing field is terrifying to them.
Merit + Representation doesn’t necessarily diminish meritocracy. However, i don’t disagree benefits of meritocracy but the best way to achieve it, is to start that process at the “ gates” of opportunities, civil service selection, scholarships, distribution of resources, education
@Awale11@Mustafe_M_Omer@addisstandard I truly wish for a country where a man's appointment doesn't parallelly get analyzed with his ethnic background.
Just a name and a title. And title based on Merit irrespective of ethnic or any other affiliation.
#Congratulations my friend #Ahmed#Shide, the 1st ethnic Somali Ethiopian elected as Speaker of the lower house of Parliament 🇪🇹. It’s a significant milestone and timely recognition.Ethiopia is in better shape economically, partly thanks to the reforms implemented.@Mustafe_M_Omer

We are already starting to feel some impacts from the #nor’#easter, a long duration wind and rain. I think we have avoided the worse-case scenario.
Not better place to spend a day like today than in a library. Glad my local library is still open
Thank you for your kind words & encouragement. I continue to support our people & our country from outside government. I have returned to academia. After #LSE, I am currently at #Harvard#University, where I can continue to advance our people’s interests &causes wherever possible
@Awale11 I have no doubt in my mind that you could have done a lot better than many people who are in SL government. I sincerely hope that your turn will come soon.
🚨Peace and stability are essential. Authorities on both sides of the border (Djibouti & Somaliland) must take responsibility to support and contribute meaningfully to efforts to de-escalate the conflict & find a lasting resolution for the escalating crises in Salel & Awdal.

Hi Former Minister @Awale11, you’re doing an excellent job building strategic alliances and engaging the right stakeholders at the right time. Your efforts behind the scenes are clearly making a meaningful impact.
Today I had the privilege of meeting former United States National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan. He is currently Professor at Harvard Kennedy School and a Senior Fellowat #Carsey School of Public Policy. It was a great opportunity to hear his insights, perspectives and wisdom.
#Harvard library 📚 is the oldest library in the United States 🇺🇸. It consists more than 25 individual Libraries across different schools and locations. This is the famous #Widener#memorial#Library located at #Harvard#Yard.
