A French politician has faced criticism after using artificial intelligence to digitally remove a Muslim woman’s hijab and alter her clothing.

National Rally MP Julien Odoul shared an AI-generated version of a photograph that originally showed the woman wearing a hijab and a long pink dress. In the altered image, her hair was digitally uncovered and her clothing was changed, alongside the words: “French liberty!”

The woman’s family said the original photograph had been taken without her knowledge and that she wishes to remain anonymous. The outlet that originally published the photograph later removed it at the family’s request.

The incident has sparked renewed debate over the use of AI, consent and privacy, as well as the way Muslim women are represented in political and public discourse.

For many Muslim women, the hijab is a personal expression of faith and identity. Respecting freedom of choice should include respecting a woman’s decision to wear it, while also protecting her privacy, dignity and right to control how her image is used.

UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed gave Netanyahu a direct warning about a week and a half before October 7, 2023, saying that Yahya Sinwar was preparing a major Hamas operation against Israel.

Netanyahu responded that he believed Hamas was focused on the West Bank and said Israel was prepared for any scenario.

The warning came after earlier signs of a possible escalation. In September, intermediaries relayed messages from Sinwar referring to an approaching “earthquake,” prompting discussions among Israeli security officials.

Netanyahu is accused of not informing the heads of the Shin Bet, Mossad, or IDF about the later warning from bin Zayed.

Some senior security officials said that knowing about it could have changed their assessment of Hamas’s intentions.

Netanyahu’s office denies that he received any warning from the UAE president and called the claim an “absolute lie.”

A disturbing clip has gone viral on social media showing a Muslim Uber driver being bullied and taunted by white passengers who repeatedly placed a dog on him, despite his clearly expressed requests for them to stop.

The driver appeared visibly frightened by the animal, yet the men continued to deliberately provoke and intimidate him, ignoring his pleas and treating his distress as a source of amusement.

Sadly, the use of dogs to intimidate, harass or provoke Muslims is a well-documented form of Islamophobic abuse, exploiting cultural sensitivities to deliberately humiliate and frighten people.
