Its purpose has been to exert pressure on politicians. Leaders are either silenced through coercion or cynically folded into the BJP or, in some remarkable instances, rewarded with ministerial positions as well. When credible accusations of corruption emerge, the Modi government simply brushes them aside. Corrupt when you're in the Opposition, suddenly clean when you jump ship!”

ZERO research institutions from India in the Nature 2024 Leaders List. But then who wants to get into this list? We have our own list and none of the other countries feature in them. Shame on them and their loss.

I'll say this very clearly. The single, solid, overwhelming reason why Indian research suffered terribly in the last decade is because the BJP union government decided it was important to uplift the greatest worst pseudoscientific healthcare practice called Ayurveda.

And along with it, they gave free reigns to all other utterly sinister unscientific practices, such as Siddha, Unani and cringe pro max Homeopathy, strengthening all of them under the unethical and illogical Ministry of Ayush that has seen an impressive rise in funding from taxpayer money which allowed them to hijack and destroy the credibility of almost all apex scientific institutes in the shortest time.

And every single person trying to bring back scientific temperament and integrity back to public and educational systems were either dealt with legal harassment or authoritarian grudge. Hell, a nonsense Homeopath who publicly worships the BJP sent the Uttar Pradesh Rae Bareily Crime Branch behind me to arrest me because I published scientific evidence on the utter drag Homeopathy is. This is new India for doctor-teachers.

Instead of getting practice changing guidelines, novel therapeutic discoveries, breaking barriers in genetics, improving paramedical care practices, publishing new frontiers on AI in healthcare and surgical specialities, our seniors in esteemed institutes were happy to publish on role of religious chants in infections, glorifying millets & jackfruits in narrative reviews, studying coconut water in inflammatory bowel disease, turmeric for cancer, ashwagandha for vaccine improvement, Ayurvedic herbal enema for gut microbiota and Yoga for constipation.

I shudder to think about where the next five years will drag us down in the field of research in scientific streams. So many students and science graduates potential waiting to be wasted and damaged beyond repair.
