“The parent forced to take a day off work because school closes has every right to be frustrated, but the problem is not that teachers have downed tools. It is that we have spent years treating education & the people who deliver it as though they should somehow manage with less.”
The way some people speak about teachers in Ireland would make you think there was some national lottery done and everyone was handed whatever career came out of the hat when they turned 18. If you’re convinced teachers have a cushy life & job then why not do it yourself? #strike
Nursing, teaching and healthcare are professions dominated by women. There’s something deeply gendered about a society that relies on women’s care but seems unwilling to properly value it.

Those wishing bad weather on school strike workers seem to be forgetting that you are dealing with seasoned yard duty campaigners here. You’ll see coats on the picket line today with more insulation than a hot press cylinder in the 90s.

If you are involved in education here in Ireland, then Ciara Reilly is well worth following on Instagram.
Here she speaks about our politicians and their framing/spin of the forthcoming industrial action by teachers, well said 👏🏻 maith thú, Ciara!
“teacher-bashing has become so normalised in society...the loudest criticism often comes from those who have little understanding of what the job entails. If some of our harshest critics spent 24 hours walking in a teacher's shoes, their perception of the profession would change”
#edchatie A nice riposte from teacher Stephen to Paul’s letter yesterday @IrishTimes accusing teachers of being “selfish” for working to rule.
“Teachers are not suddenly becoming selfish. We are simply, for a period, choosing to do the job we are contracted and paid to do.” 👏🏻
there In UCD, Ireland a medical student was graped by another student while she was unconscious. Images and videos were shared around. She tried to get her exams postponed because of the so much stress of ending up pregnant and needing an abortion. She was denied. She lost her court case, and the university is trying to sue HER for costs. The Grapist is still allowed to study there. There have been protests and they are ongoing, but I am so so, so tired of this behaviour. No woman, no girl, child or infant deserves this
I'm glad the villain of the new Toy Story is a child's tablet. I hope the film conveys how screens eat up a child's hobbies, interests, literacy, ability to function socially. I hope it provokes millions of parents to think twice before making the iPad a babysitter.
Local teacher wins Nobel Peace Prize for deescalating a conflict between two infants where one thought the other had robbed their pencil when it turned out they both had the same pencil and the missing pencil was just on the floor. 🕊️
