Jubba River flooded Bardere City last night after heavy rain. The death toll was five people, three of whom were from one family, while thousands lost their homes and properties.

I told our Somali Referee Omar Artan that while his World Cup officiating dream may have been delayed, it has never been diminished. Long before a ball is kicked, he has already won the hearts of millions and secured his place in history.

Omar Artan has done more than unite the footballing world, he has ignited hope in every child who dares to dream beyond the horizon. Dreams may be deferred, but they are never defeated.

I extend my deepest gratitude to FIFA and CAF for recognizing and believing in his talent, integrity, and dedication throughout the years.

For a lifetime, Omar carried a whistle not as a symbol of authority, but as a commitment to fairness, justice, and the spirit of the game. He devoted himself to ensuring that football was decided by merit, yet fate denied him the stage he so richly deserved.

The Heritage Institute for Policy Studies was honored to participate in the unveiling of the Center for Somali Studies at Yangzhou University, the first initiative of its kind in China, represented by our Deputy Director, Dr. Abdirashid Ismail.

During the event, Dr. Ismail also presented at a seminar on the Horn of Africa situation, contributing insights on regional dynamics and policy.

This milestone advances the global study of Somalia’s history, culture, and policy while strengthening academic ties between Somalia and China.

The event coincided with the launch of an exhibition commemorating 65 years of diplomatic relations between Somalia and China, highlighting the enduring partnership between the two countries.

Two key Memoranda of Understanding were also signed: on April 7, 2026, in Beijing between the China-Africa Institute and Somali National University, and on April 9, 2026, between Somali National University and Yangzhou University, expanding opportunities for research collaboration and academic exchange.

We extend our sincere appreciation to H.E. Ambassador @DrHodanOsman for her instrumental role in making this achievement possible.

Somalia stands at one of the most dangerous crossroads in its history. Our internal fractures deepen as Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland” strikes at the core of our sovereignty. We have lived this nightmare before—the Khartoum 2006 reconciliation meeting between the legitimate government and the Islamic Courts, where radicals on both sides sabotaged a rare chance for peace. Their actions opened the door to Ethiopian military intervention and fueled the rise of Al-Shabaab. We are still living with the consequences.

Today, unity is not a slogan—it is a lifeline. The government and the opposition must meet with sincerity and patriotism, because failing to conclude an inclusive agreement may open a Pandora’s box for the dismemberment of Somalia. And we must stay vigilant: subversive forces from both the government and the opposition, some tied to foreign agendas and some afraid to lose power and privilege, are already at work. There is little doubt that the subversive plan is already underway. Somalia cannot endure another betrayal.
