Jubba River flooded Bardere City last night after heavy rain. The death toll was five people, three of whom were from one family, while thousands lost their homes and properties.
#Somali Government should take immediate action to assistance to those affected by the flood and to help repair the channels/areas that are flooded by the river.

Today, I spoke with our top three students in the 2025/2026 National High School Examinations and their parents. Congratulations to Mohamed Isse Dahir Yussuf, who finished first, Farhiya Farah Omar Egal, who finished second, and Amina Khalid Abdalla, who finished third.

The Government will provide scholarships for all three top students, giving them the opportunity to continue their education and pursue their ambitions.

For years, too many Somali children lost valuable learning time because of teacher shortages, limited resources, insecurity, displacement, and climate shocks. We are changing that.

Under the Dan Qaran Government, more children are entering classrooms. More children are staying in school. More children are getting the chance to discover what they can do.

We are not just restoring learning. We are building the minds that will build Somalia.

Somalia should be proud of the next generation of entrepreneurs, engineers, teachers, public servants, farmers, scientists, innovators, and community leaders emerging from our schools.

I congratulate Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, senior government officials, the Ministry of Education, examiners, teachers, school leaders, parents, communities, and our security personnel for their input to this great success.

Mohamed, Farhiya, and Amina’s success shows what our young people can achieve when given the opportunity. Our responsibility now is to open that door for millions more. When we invest in our children today, we invest in the Somalia they will build tomorrow.

The true power of a state begins with legitimacy, when citizens believe the state belongs to them and serves their common interests. Without legitimacy, disagreements widen between government and opposition, political divisions deepen, and armed opposition can emerge, creating openings for external actors to intervene. A strong state is not one that controls people through force, but one that earns their trust, protects their dignity, and unites them around a shared national purpose. As Somalis, can we must learn honestly from our history, recognize our mistakes, and have the courage not to repeat them.

Leaders celebrating “biggest fundraising ever” for bricks & mortar while children go hungry, schools lack desks, and clinics have no medicine is a tragic missed priority.
Faith needs more than beautiful buildings. Prioritise hospitals, skills training & real economic empowerment. This obsession with mosques amid generational poverty explains why suffering persists instead this energy should shift to building more quality schools that actually equip children with skills to escape poverty or hospitals that meet the needs of our society. Time to shift focus.

I told our Somali Referee Omar Artan that while his World Cup officiating dream may have been delayed, it has never been diminished. Long before a ball is kicked, he has already won the hearts of millions and secured his place in history.

Omar Artan has done more than unite the footballing world, he has ignited hope in every child who dares to dream beyond the horizon. Dreams may be deferred, but they are never defeated.

I extend my deepest gratitude to FIFA and CAF for recognizing and believing in his talent, integrity, and dedication throughout the years.

For a lifetime, Omar carried a whistle not as a symbol of authority, but as a commitment to fairness, justice, and the spirit of the game. He devoted himself to ensuring that football was decided by merit, yet fate denied him the stage he so richly deserved.

The Heritage Institute for Policy Studies was honored to participate in the unveiling of the Center for Somali Studies at Yangzhou University, the first initiative of its kind in China, represented by our Deputy Director, Dr. Abdirashid Ismail.

During the event, Dr. Ismail also presented at a seminar on the Horn of Africa situation, contributing insights on regional dynamics and policy.

This milestone advances the global study of Somalia’s history, culture, and policy while strengthening academic ties between Somalia and China.

The event coincided with the launch of an exhibition commemorating 65 years of diplomatic relations between Somalia and China, highlighting the enduring partnership between the two countries.

Two key Memoranda of Understanding were also signed: on April 7, 2026, in Beijing between the China-Africa Institute and Somali National University, and on April 9, 2026, between Somali National University and Yangzhou University, expanding opportunities for research collaboration and academic exchange.

We extend our sincere appreciation to H.E. Ambassador @DrHodanOsman for her instrumental role in making this achievement possible.
