🚨 Amnesty International urges Saudi Arabia to quash Anojan's death sentence and release him
Amnesty International has called on Saudi Arabia to quash the death sentence imposed on Sivarasa Anojan, the Tamil migrant worker from Kalmunai condemned over a social media post, and to release him immediately and unconditionally, warning that his execution would amount to an arbitrary deprivation of life.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the rights organisation said Anojan's conviction stemmed entirely from his exercise of freedom of expression, after a Saudi appeal court sentenced him to death over a Facebook comment deemed insulting to the Prophet Muhammad. Amnesty said he was denied access to a lawyer from the moment of his arrest until his initial sentencing.
🚨 Family says Anojan attacked with sharp weapon in Saudi jail as Sri Lankan diplomats denied access
Sivarasa Anojan, the Eelam Tamil migrant worker on death row in Saudi Arabia, was attacked with a sharp weapon in Dammam prison, his family says, contradicting Saudi prison authorities' claim that he suffered only fingernail scratches, as Sri Lankan diplomats have been denied access to see him.
Raising the case in the Sri Lankan parliament on Wednesday, the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Batticaloa MP @ShanakiyanR said the family had been told Anojan was stabbed in the head by a fellow inmate after being moved within the prison, and that his life was in danger.
"The accounts of the family and the authorities clearly contradict each other," Rasamanickam said, calling for officials to verify Anojan's condition directly and ensure his protection.
Please, do not stay silent for Anojan
Pray for him, stand with him, and help his story be heard
Raise your voice for Anojan Sivarasa

A Facebook comment. A death sentence.
24-year-old Eelam Tamil engineer Sivarasa Anojan faces execution in Saudi Arabia over a Facebook comment he says he deleted within minutes.
How did it come to this, and can he be saved?

Dr. Basel Alnomily is an Alawite cardiac surgeon in Damascus, Syria.
He was kidnapped just days after publicly speaking out about the threats he had received simply for being Alawite.
His whereabouts remain unknown.
To doctors and medical professionals around the world: Please speak up. Raise your voices. Demand answers.
Where is Dr. Basel Alnomily?
Men have it so easy.
A man could be a rapist and they'll defend him.
Men could be protesting against rapists and they're seen as heroes and "world is healing".
With all due respect, Afghan women do not need another expression of concern. They need consequences for their persecutors. Five years of statements have not stopped the Taliban. Gender apartheid cannot be confronted with diplomatic pleasantries.
Xi Jinping deploys thousands of riot police to torture monks and submerge 13th-century Wonto Monastery for a hydro-dam because the CCP is deathly afraid of unarmed Tibetans with prayer beads. Beijing doesn't govern Tibet—it occupies it with batons.
A Sri Lankan Hindu migrant worker facing execution in Saudi Arabia says he was attacked with a sharp weapon inside prison and suffered injuries to his head.
But there’s a catch: Saudi authorities say another inmate’s fingernails caused the injuries, while Sri Lankan diplomats were denied access to Anojan.
With his life at stake, how can his condition be independently verified when even his own country’s diplomats are not allowed to see him?

The number of people who are speaking in support of this sentence is worrying. At first I doubted those were bait accounts but no, actual people who believe this is what's fair and right. Proper cult mentality.
Stop pretending Canada cares about human rights. We are legislating disabled citizens into starvation. Leaving human beings to rot in a permanent state of trauma and poverty while most of the public stays silent is a disgusting national shame. 💔
Victims in Pahalgam were not asked about their political orientation, they were asked about their religion. Deeply ironic Pakistan speaks about combating religious hatred, Indian Diplomat Raghoo Puri after Pakistani provocation at UN
The youngest victim of October 7 was just 14 hours old.
Naama Abu Rashed's mother, Sujood, was 9 months pregnant. She was rushing to the hospital when Hamas terrorists sprayed her car with bullets.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section and fought desperately for 14 hours to keep the newborn alive, but the injuries suffered in the womb were too severe.
Hamas didn’t care that the family was Arab. They didn’t care that Naama was an innocent soul who had barely taken her first breath.
Those attempting to justify, sanitize, or excuse this massacre want you to forget. We never will.
Allah yerhamha 💔
I think you missed part of the headline "Canada plans to decriminalize MAiD for people who are incapable of consent"i.e. for older women with dementia who will overwhelmingly be the victims of this.
'Canada, don't trust Communist China': Anti-CCP protesters unite outside Toronto consulate 🇨🇳
Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Taiwanese and Falun Gong practitioners rallied for freedom and human rights on Oct. 1 as the Cowards and Bullies campaign returned to the site of the attack on Falun Gong practitioner Lina Li.
“Canada, don’t trust Communist China!”
That was the message chanted outside the Chinese Consulate in Toronto on Oct. 1, as protesters from communities that have experienced life under the Chinese Communist Party came together to mark China’s National Day — not with celebration, but condemnation.
Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Taiwanese, Falun Gong practitioners and other opponents of the CCP gathered outside the consulate, calling for freedom and human rights while warning Canadians not to take their own freedoms for granted.
“We fight for our freedom, fight for our human rights, and we are against the CCP,” one demonstrator said.
For a Tibetan protester, the demonstration was an opportunity to draw attention to what his community has endured under Chinese rule.
“Tibetan people living in Tibet have been suffering since 1959,” he said, explaining that protesters want the world to pay attention to their demands for “freedom” and “basic human rights.”
A Hong Konger who recently came to Canada had a similar message.
“In China, no freedom. We cannot talk what we want,” he said.
We also returned with our billboard truck, which displays footage of the Sept. 22 attack on Falun Gong practitioner Lina Li outside the same consulate.
We first brought the truck to the consulate on Sept. 28 to launch our Cowards and Bullies campaign. The campaign calls on Prime Minister Mark Carney to identify and charge Li’s attacker — and deport him if he is not a Canadian citizen — expel any Chinese diplomat found to be involved in intimidating people in Canada, and permanently shut down every CCP “police station” operating on Canadian soil.
Li was assaulted and threatened after confronting a man who tore down Falun Gong banners. The man, who wore a black jacket bearing a Chinese flag, left before police arrived and remains publicly unidentified.
“This is fantastic,” one attendee said of the truck. “It’s great for anti-censorship, and it’s a great way of raising awareness.”
While the protesters came from different countries, cultures and movements, their message outside the consulate was remarkably consistent: what happened in their homelands must not be allowed to follow them to Canada.
“If this is disrupted, here becomes China,” one demonstrator warned. “No one has any rights.”
