PM Modi rightfully pointed out in a NGT Organised international conference that development and environmental protection must advance together. https://t.co/WiXqCDsTQm
@Ayan_Rick_ asks the harder question: has our environmental jurisprudence truly balanced the two or made development the residual concern?
https://t.co/wLejwINCXh
@Ananth_Krishna_ How can this “balance” really translate into proportionality in practice, instead of shifting the burden elsewhere is an issue of greater discussions. Grateful for your insights on this.
@Ananth_KrishnaS Much appreciate your guidance and insights since the initial piece which I had the opportunity to co-author with you. The general understanding on this issue does not suffice to predict the impact of such judgments . More insights are duly welcomed🙏
Hello all, in my recent piece on Swarajya, I’ve shared my thoughts on the Vanashakti judgment and what four decades of absolutist environmental laws have cost India's ease of doing business. Would love your insights on the same.

When the Supreme Court recalled the Vanashakti judgment last year, we wrote that the case wasn't over; it had simply moved from an environmental law debate to a larger question of statutory power.
The final judgment proves exactly that.

BREAKING | Supreme Court draws a clear line on ex post facto environmental clearances
#SupremeCourt holds that prior environmental clearance remains the rule and projects cannot ordinarily begin first and seek approval later.
However, it has also ruled that the Centre can, in exceptional situations and through a valid statutory notification, introduce a limited, time-bound amnesty scheme in larger public interest.
At the same time, the Court has struck down the Centre's 2021 Office Memorandum, holding that the government could not create a permanent administrative mechanism allowing projects that started without prior environmental clearance to later obtain approval.
Importantly, the Court has protected environmental clearances already granted under the earlier regime, but barred fresh applications under the quashed 2021 mechanism.

Happy to share that with prudent fiscal management, #Odisha was No-1 in the country in @NITIAayog’s Fiscal Health Index for the year 2023-24. It’s a pride for all of us that Odisha not only led the nation but also was comprehensively ahead with a score of 73.1 over even the 2nd rank State that could achieve a score of only 54.
It is matter of great satisfaction for me that Odisha had charted this journey from near bankruptcy in 2000 to lead the chart in every parameter which no #DoubleEngine govt could achieve in the country. From a precarious fiscal situation to becoming the top performer in fiscal health, Odisha’s journey reflected vision, and transformative governance under the principles of #5T.
Highlight of our governance can be seen in every parameter of fiscal health-whether it is quality of expenditure, revenue mobilisation, fiscal prudence and reducing loan burden-emerging as exemplar state.
This sustained fiscal stability empowered the state to invest in many people-centric initiatives like #BSKY, #KALIA, #MissionShakti, #SkillDevelopment, #OdishaSchoolTransformation, tribal development, #DisasterManagement, infrastructure development, irrigation projects, poverty alleviation initiatives and funding of our own food security scheme-without waiting for handouts from Centre. I thank the people of Odisha for being partners in this transformative journey.
But now I am worried with the way the Odisha double engine govt is mis-managing finances, pushing the State in the path of bankruptcy and push back the development momentum to 25 years back. May good sense prevail.

Shameful surrender by @ncert. The mention of judicial corruption in its textbook was factual, given that 11 Chief Justices and 2 Law and National Commission reports have themselves highlighted rampant judicial corruption.
It is the Supreme court that should have apologised.
Congress party which has itself banned Indian journalists from its headquarters, prevented them from attending press conferences, and even attempted to use the law to curb media freedom during the UPA era should be the last to deliver moral lectures about women journalists being barred from a Taliban press conference or to unfairly malign and attack male journalists. Don’t launch attack from AC Rooms with half-baked stories.
The truth is, we did raise our voice in support of our female colleagues. Until the very end of the press conference, none of us were aware that women journalists had been categorically banned. We were simply informed that only those whose names were on an invited list would be allowed entry, a list that was never shown to us.
This ban is not only unacceptable and discriminatory, but it also stands in complete violation of India’s values and legal principles. While the Ministry of External Affairs had no jurisdiction over what occurred inside the Afghan embassy, we hope the Government of India will reaffirm its unwavering commitment to the freedom of the press and equal access for all journalists.
Bar Council of India DISSOLVES Delhi Bar Council, Appoints Special Committee to Ensure Elections
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has immediately dissolved the elected Bar Council of Delhi (BCD). The BCI cited chronic failures in voter verification and repeated delays in holding elections as the reason.
A 3-member Special Committee, led by Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, has been appointed to take full control. Their mandate is clear: ensure free and fair elections for the Delhi Bar Council ON or BEFORE January 31, 2026.
This decisive action, invoking Section 8A of the Advocates Act, aims to end years of delay and restore democratic representation for Delhi's advocates.

The amount of writs and bail petitions filed for TMC linked people produces a market in itself for criminal lawyers.
Speedy recovery to MP Shri Khagen Murmu MLA Dr. Shankar Ghosh
This is BJP MP Khagen Murmu, lucky to be alive after a murderous attack on his life by a five-hundred-strong mob armed with stones and sticks while he was inspecting flood-affected areas in Nagrakata, Bengal.
No outrage. Because Democracy is alive and kicking in Bengal.

Plethora of cause and pre-mature speculations often lead to limit our perspective on the matter. Without a doubt recently ascended BJP has the responsibility to answer the state but INC & Sofiya Firdous have a responsibility for their constituency.

After violence broke out in Odisha’s Cuttack during a Durga idol immersion ceremony, internet services have been suspended for 24 hours.
Times Now’s Satish shares more details with @HeenaGambhir.
Why are we celebrating the 4G network stack at a time when the world has 5G?
Just check the number of countries that manufacture their own telecom equipment. Reforms under NDA in TRAI, TDSAT and the Telecom Industry have been truly remarkable.
Pertinent to mention "activists" still consider being prosecuted as an honorary recognition. UPA had already alleged him of Anti-national connections. Section 113 of BNS cannot be screened under the perversion of Article 19 of COI.
#SonamWangchukArrested#LehViolence
Videos of #SonamWangchuk urging “We need Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to happen in India,” telling people that if China invades “we will show them the way,” and teaching “how to hide your face during a protest” reveals his true motives.
Congress accused him in 2007) of using foreign funds to destabilize Ladakh but took no actions.
Now when his FCRA licence is cancelled and arrests may follow, Congress is crying.
Why this hypocrisy?
It is pertinent to mention that "activists" still consider being prosecuted as an honorary award. Something about being seen and recognised for "something they stand for". BJP govt. did not put allegations of terrorism till now, UPA first alleged him of Anti National connections
