We moved all our unwanted players, got decent fees, strengthened defence and midfield with top PL proven players. If we'd got a good LW (in addition to Tzolis) this could have been a 10/10 window.

With deals now going through for Martinelli, Jesus and Viera, it does feel like we're clearing the decks for an attacking signing, even if it is someone lowkey. I'd be happy just to get someone who's profile suits our current set up and works well vs low blocks.

See, imo we're just fine at doing deals like this, we just haven't done the kind of intra-PL transfers that see you horse trade mid to good players (usually young and English) for circa £40m-£60m.

Another worry is the fee. If he does want to leave in a year or two there's no way we get our money back. If we spend £120m then we're taking a loss on that if he goes to Barcelona or anywhere else except maybe Real or PSG.

A year ago he was coming off a 30 goal season and looked like a dream signing. After 8 league goals and all this drama (that he is partly responsible for) he's a lot less appealing. Still a top player though, could be a good signing provided he acts professionally at Arsenal.

I just laugh whenever Arsenal fans do Edu revisionism.

Edu gave Nelson a £120k-per-week wage when he was in the final year of his contract, just because he wanted to “protect” his value.

Ever since, Arsenal have tried to sell him every summer without any clubs showing serious interest. He’s also gone on multiple unsuccessful loans.

In the final year of his contract, the only club interested in him was a relegated West Ham, who only wanted him on loan.

Now the club has decided to terminate his contract.
