Soccer will never be popular in America.

What we’re seeing with the World Cup is a fad. Within months we will be addicted to the NFL again.

Here’s why:

- Soccer isn’t violent enough.
- There’s way too much whining which goes against the American DNA.
- The refs and rules seem incredibly arbitrary.
- It’s in American to have a sports game end in a draw. It’s just wrong.
- Hard to monetize. TV ads are nonexistent. I actually like this element but our American economy does not.
- Did I mention there’s too much whining and faked injuries?

Basically, what I’m saying is that soccer is a pretty wimpy sport. You can hate me for saying this but you know it’s the truth.

I will continue enjoying the World Cup but we all know what happens next.

Plus most of the media we consume here usually “exciting”like something is always happening in quick successions on screens. My guess attentions spans are so short and soccer is and can be long and drawn out it just doesnt resonate right away. And the USMNT plays fast & explosive

While all this CAN be true, all the games ive watched have been exciting regardless if its a 1-1 draw. I think the real reason why its not popular here because this Sport brings people together like i have never seen before and America is built on division. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Okay, since you asked, here’s my American opinion.

Soccer will never be as popular in America as football for 3 reasons:

1. The Fake Injuries

Players are incentivized to flop because the other team is more likely to get a penalty.

In football, it is the opposite. If a player has a real injury, play toughs it out and plays through it, it is seen as heroic.

Americans like toughness and grit.

2. Chance Goals

Many goals are scored by chance as opposed to skill. The chaos at the net when the ball is near is remarkable. Defenders blocking the goalie’s line of sight. The ball bouncing and ricocheting off of random body parts often determines if the ball goes in the net or out of bounds.

In football, there are some elements of chance, but because players are allowed to use their hands, the points are primarily scored based on skill. Less is left to chance.

Americans like control.

3. Low Scoring

In football, it is still challenging to score, but it happens much more often. Also, every play has a chance for gratification and excitement: a first down, a big catch, a big hit, a sack, an interception, etc

American like constant excitement.

I mean all i see on tik tok is fans from all countries EMBRACING each other and many cultures coming together partying and having a good time. Fans from the same team here fight each other or jump other teams fans or hell destroy their own city after a win.
