Bad News for India and Imran

The claims made by Najam Sethi regarding senior officials briefing Imran Khan in jail and the public reaction to ARY channel owner Salman Iqbal's friendly meeting with the Army Chief during a PSL match are eye-opening enough. Those who never tire of saying that the founder of PTI must be released for broader national consensus have also received their answer: the intensity of public sentiment against Project Naya Pakistan and its supporters has not diminished, even after considerable time has passed.

The general perception and there are many past examples is that the establishment simultaneously engages with multiple conflicting parties. The question is: are such contacts currently happening with PTI? A review of ground realities and current events easily leads to the conclusion that the establishment has no need to brief Prisoner No. 804 in jail. His early release also seems unlikely. Imran Khan's case is not like that of Nawaz Sharif, Benazir Bhutto, or other politicians. The establishment brought him into politics to counter these very leaders, and his political training is based on preventing national consensus. No institution in Pakistan can afford to release Imran Khan and give him a free hand in the current war-like environment, risking new chaos at any moment.

Political analysts agree that Imran Khan’s role, even in jail, and PTI’s influence have not ended. They are being used as a sword hanging over the government and other political parties. The frequent rumors of deals, releases, or reconciliations are part of this strategy. The ruling coalition and other parties are aware of this but have chosen to keep their heads down and "serve."

After the Pakistan-India conflict, Imran Khan’s release seems even more distant. During the war, PTI’s social media and some leaders ran such a disgraceful campaign that Indian media is now using it as a reference against Pakistan and its armed forces. The simple truth is that if there were any possibility of release or relief, why would Goldsmith House suddenly become active again? Jemima brought her sons forward to tell the world that Imran’s life is in danger, reflecting her own failure and frustration—all while Pakistan had already clearly won against India.

There are also reports that Imran Khan has directed party leaders to engage in secret negotiations with the establishment or government to find a way out. But even if a way is found, what can it achieve? If Imran Khan still desires to become prime minister under a hybrid system, that time has passed. His successors have secured their positions by performing a thousand times better. More importantly, Pakistan’s close allies China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia hold bitter memories of his tenure. No country, including Pakistan, can isolate itself from the world. If one man in jail is serving the desired purposes, why bring him out?

PTI’s supporters, especially overseas YouTubers, waged a campaign against Pakistan during the recent war, which is unforgivable. Despite this, only three or four YouTube channels were banned, while the rest continue their mission. The public now understands that those whose channels were shut down are enemies, while those still operating are agents of both the state and the enemy. History shows that double agents are far more dangerous than single ones. The real question is whether the powers that be will acknowledge this truth and take decisive action. Otherwise, the spread of fake news and instability will not stop.
