The interesting thing about social media is nobody's actually talking to each other. Everybody's in their own echo chamber and it's all caricatures. Everyone's put in a shallow box of narrowly defined labels (left, right, liberal, panican, etc), but it's a caricature, not real.
Pattern recognition exists for a reason in nature. The entire point is to increase your chance of survival. But we now live in a society which tells us that using our own intuition is racist. We’re not allowed to say or even think the obvious anymore.
Instead, we’re told over and over again that we must treat every individual as a blank slate with zero possible correlation to statistical group behaviors, and then we are shocked at the results this suicidal act of virtue signaling produces.
We see 2 distinct trends emerging.
Families w/school age kids and/or small businesses are heading to ID & MT. They hate the taxes but really want to escape our indoctrination factory school system.
Retired or approaching retirement are heading to AZ, NV, and even CA. No estate tax & sunny weather. After a lifetime of paying into the failures delivered at every level of our state, no one's real interested in leaving a 20% tip on their way out...
Extremely cool that we live in the richest country in the world and we can’t afford high-speed rail, our museums and colleges are closing en masse, our students graduate not knowing how to read and gambling is significantly more popular than books.
@FantasyAnime One thing I think we can all appreciate is that it's so unique and original that it doesn't adhere to any strict labeling. Many of the greats are like this. Think of the term "Metroidvania" that was coined because so many games tried to capture the original formula.
@PlayAcclaim BTW, in case you're wondering, ALL of those games have been from Asian developers. Mostly Japan. Because they're still doing things that are fresh, cool, gritty, and original.
@PlayAcclaim Oh, look. 2D Pixel Metroidvania published just last year. Now that's something that hasn't already been done before, and better...
There's a reason I've only bought a handful of games over the last decade or more. If I want Metroidvania I'll just go play Metroid or CSotN.
It's the OJ Simpson trial all over again.
A handful of deranged and compromised young women on the jury are going to force a mistrial because they believe that this killer is somehow the real victim in all of this.
We are watching the consequences of decades of Progressive metaphysics play out in real time.
Everyone in this country is permitted to engage in blatant racial and sex-based nepotism in hiring practices, university admissions, welfare collection, government contracting, workplace promotions, and even criminal trials.
Everyone except White Men.
@AdGuard "System-level: A desktop app that filters all traffic across every browser and app"
Do you one better: Network-wide DNS blocker like pi-hole or Unbound. No, it doesn't block many in-app ads like the system blocker does (in YouTube, for example), but it does a lot and it's free.
@baldlyrudy Linux is increasingly good for gaming, but it's still primarily for workstations/developers, and for people seeking a more transparent, privacy-respecting OS.
Firefox isn't perfect. But should we really abandon it over every decision Mozilla makes?
It's still one of the few major browsers that doesn't rely on Chromium.
If Firefox disappears, Google's Chromium ecosystem becomes even more dominant.
If you care about privacy, open standards and a diverse web, Firefox is worth supporting despite its flaws.
Would you switch away from Firefox?
