@EgyptCatLover But Gwayne has no personality in the book, you’re imagining him as a villain. His scenes are being used to contrast with Cole’s character. This isn’t the first time they’ve let someone live either - Laenor gets to go free in s1. Unlike Laenor, Gwayne will still die
@EgyptCatLover On that point I completely agree. We seem to have a very similar opinion on how Rhaena’s arc was changed & I wish they’d given her screentime whilst sticking to her book arc.
@EgyptCatLover But regardless, whether the make Rhaena a warrior or a contrast to Baela, they’ve developed her and given her an abundance more screen time. Once again, Gwayne’s two scenes make zero difference
@EgyptCatLover I don’t disagree abt the lore, there’s a lot I dislike about their choices, but you have to realise the general public just like seeing people fight on dragons. What they’ve done for Rhaena IS a huge positive in the eyes of most viewers
@EgyptCatLover@ann1pjo@TeeganH123 I don’t think giving Rhaena screentime is a bad thing, but idk why you’re pretending Gwayne is someone they’re really pushing when they just aren’t
@EgyptCatLover@ann1pjo@TeeganH123 Baela is important, Rhaena isn’t. She spends the whole dance in safety. They’ve gone out their way to favour Rhaena. Her arc has taken from Nettles, Jace, Aegon3. Maelor is missing, Daeron hasn’t appeared yet, Aegon2 has had two scenes. Gwayne appearing twice is not favouritism
@EgyptCatLover@ann1pjo@TeeganH123 Gwayne has (iirc) appeared twice all season. He is not stealing anyone’s screentime, ESPECIALLY not Rhaena or Baela’s. Besides Alicent being prominent, every episode so far has focused on the blacks. Aegon has had two scenes in total. I do not understand how Gwayne is the issue
@EgyptCatLover@ann1pjo@TeeganH123 The show is about the power struggle between two factions, not just the targaryens. Book Rhaena’s only purpose is to bring a little hope at the end of the dance, just like Gwayne has minor significance in the book. Gwayne has also had what, two scenes in three different episodes?
@ann1pjo@TeeganH123 Why though? This kind of reads like team biases. They’re both minor book characters who are siblings to more important characters. If anything Rhaena is less impactful in the dance than Gwayne (though her & morning are obviously more relevant after)
@ann1pjo@TeeganH123 I like Rhaena but it feels a little disingenuous to be upset Gwayne is getting more screentime than his book version, when Rhaena was not a key character in the dance and has been given Nettle’s entire arc purely to keep her a recurring character
@KratosClaire This debate is ridiculous. When I was 15 I had no laptop or console and no income. I watched playthroughs of games I wished I could play and got invested in those games stories, characters and fandoms still
