Three years ago, I was at @SOAS Library, taking a deep dive into my dissertation research, not quite knowing where the work would eventually lead. Today, I am glad to share that this research has evolved into a published academic book chapter ✨
🎉 Congratulations to @AzzamLeena, @SOAS alumna and graduate of the MSc Humanitarianism, Aid and Conflict programme, on her new chapter in "Local Agency in Africa’s Peace and Security" (2026).
An excellent example of the academic & research journeys our programmes can inspire. Her chapter explores SSR, inequality & displacement in South Sudan.

#INGOs country leadership convened in a retreat to reflect on #development & #humanitarian work amid evolving regional security dynamics & global funding context. Discussions signalled a shift in practice, as interagency coordination & localization become central to operations.
Gaza is starving.
We want to believe sustained international pressure will allow us to save as many lives as possible in Gaza. But so far we’re not seeing the scale of change we need.
My interview with @amanpour on @cnni:
No one should be forced to risk their life to eat.
Every day, @UN teams collect critical supplies from Gaza’s crossings, bringing them to those struggling to survive.
But movement is often delayed, and desperate crowds who gather to offload, are met with gunfire.
#Gaza today⬇️
The vote by the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) against @UNRWA this evening is unprecedented and sets a dangerous precedent. It opposes the UN Charter and violates the State of Israel’s obligations under international law.
This is the latest in the ongoing campaign to discredit UNRWA and delegitimize its role towards providing human-development assistance and services to #Palestine Refugees.
These bills will only deepen the suffering of Palestinians, especially in #Gaza where people have been going through more than a year of sheer hell.
It will deprive over 650,000 girls & boys there from education, putting at risk an entire generation of children.
These bills increase the suffering of the Palestinians & are nothing less than collective punishment.
Putting an end to UNRWA & its services will not strip the Palestinians from their refugee status. That status is protected by another UN General Assembly resolution until a fair and lasting solution is found to the plight of the Palestinians.
Failing to push back these bills will weaken our common multilateral mechanism established after World War 2.
This should be a concern to all.

@frontline_nego workshop provided me with a deep understanding of how to negotiate humanitarian outcomes for crisis-affected populations. The skills and methods I learnt in this workshop will undoubtedly shape my work in the #MENA region specifically #Gaza and #Sudan responses

@NexusAcademyHDP Proud to have been part of this cohort. I learnt alot from all of the colleagues. Thanks to Romano and NA mentors for this excellent program.
Honoured to have been part of this important discussion. It is more paramount than ever that we stop shirking from the political questions that are detriment to the success of our #peacebuilding and #humanitarian frameworks and interventions

Dr. Beatriz Sánchez-Mojica compares legal regimes for IDPs. @AzzamLeena shows how supposed technical & apolitical approaches to security sector reform reinforces conflict dynamics. @DrVictoriaKnox shows how eviction for megaprojects perpetuates cycles of displacement. @RLI_News
Had the pleasure of sitting on the expert panel “Internal Displacement, Law and Policy“ today to present research findings from the case of South Sudan on the impact of security sector reform interventions in perpetuating displacement in the post-conflict context.
