Sadly just one example of many. Developers are constantly trying to get out of s106 obligations, by claiming it’s no longer viable. Thankfully in this case the appeal has not yet been granted. What will be the first to go? Affordable housing? #TheNewSlums

The main conclusions drawn from the tweets are:
- affordable housing crisis is a global phenomenon
- very little progress has been made
- developers have a monopoly over land value
- the quality of affordable housing produced is inadequate

The theme of these tweets over the past few months has assessed the success of the social housing green paper introduced in 2018. Now 4 years since adopted, changes are expected. Although it is clear from the research I have provided they are a number of failures #TheNewSlums
Frustrating to see economic gain favoured over the social benefits. But it does beg the question who is responsible for this? The developers for trying to maximise profit or the framework for allowing an easy escape of obligations #TheNewSlums
Benchmark price for affordable housing published by leeds city council 2021. How affordable is this considering the average annual salary is £23,000, around £1600 per month after tax? #TheNewSlums
Proposed site for affordable housing in Winterbourne. Great to see but why this site? Incredibly narrow stretch of land for this development. Will this site have any green space? Likely not. Will it be overcrowded? My guess yes #TheNewSlums
to add greater contact an additional "133,460 households" are at risk of homelessness in the UK. will be interesting to see the effects on the cost of living crisis on these statistics #TheNewSlums
Affordable housing in a 'developed' nation like the UK should be a right. Legislation is needed to help planning authorities have better control. Should not be left to developers to control housing for the sake of profit. #TheNewSlums
extract from Gov report on homelessness
Be interesting to see this comes into fruition, solving the housing crisis by compromising affordable housing? fixing the crisis or fulfilling a demand? #TheNewSlums

Although reading on this matter further it is interesting to see York councils intention to build 600 houses, 40% of which labelled social housing. Showing some attempt to deal with the housing crisis on a local level. #TheNewSlums
Interesting perspective, sad to see a revert to laissez-faire. Arguably with adequate government intervention there would be less reliance on affordable housing, particularly for young people like myself. #thenewslums

Interesting read, great to see Denmark taking action on the land-grabbing TNCs to help tackle the housing crisis. Will be interesting to see how the "affordable" homes are redistributed. Hopefully other countries will follow #thenewslums https://t.co/4jEg8NhiKe
