To conclude #TheNewSlums: private property ownership in England encourages development that maximises land/property value. In regulating development, town planning should ensure the benefits of development are distributed justly, including the benefit of decent affordable housing
So sad to see the children of @QueenswayPS protesting against the closure of their own school. I hope LCC and @educationgovuk look beyond the numbers and consider the people
Our old estate still has ex miners living there. They are elderly people who worked at the mines yet now have to pack up and move into a new house on the estate when built.

My #TheNewSlums tweets have shown a woeful shortage of truly affordable housing and two contrasting approaches from LPAs: one unable to agree a local plan/housing targets; one with a laudable plan to try and address the #HousingCrisis. But planning is only part of the solution.
Better Planning for Housing Affordability https://t.co/ijh07GT78f suggests the diagnosis of the #HousingCrisis is wrong and makes a logical point that planning reform hasn't worked as the problem has worsened. A broader solution to a multi-faceted problem is needed. #TheNewSlums

https://t.co/ub2S4vVvSz Finally some good(ish) news for some residents of Sugar Hill & Wordsworth Crescent. This case shone a light on the appalling shortage of affordable homes in Leeds as residents facing eviction struggled to find alternative homes. #thenewslums
60 families lost their homes . We all had to find new homes, sometimes out of area due to affordability . Our community ruined due to landlord greed

Interesting article from @CratusComm asking: is 'affordable' housing really affordable? Successive legislation from 1980s onwards means the answer depends on your income, your local authority, and the type of 'affordable' home. https://t.co/ahXwizM2C5 #TheNewSlums
