Not many people know since Great master Saichō isn’t well known compared to others, but he has received teachings from the chan Oxhead school(牛頭宗) with its lineage going back to Bodhidharma. So although the school died out, it lives on as an part of the Tendai school (天台宗)
@B0dhisattvaa Yeah, I'd loved to read Dōgen too someday if time permits. But I've already bookmarked Bankei Yōtaku and Ikkyū Sōjun from the Zen tradition, and I still haven't gotten around to them. I'd need to clear through their teachings first. Hakuin and Dōgen needs to wait for now. 😅😅
@HongZhou1110308 I know the struggle my friend! Studying buddhism comes with an endless list of books haha😅 Hopefully we will find the time to read it all🙏
@HongZhou1110308 Yes thats what I liked about Tendai so much. Sentient beings are diverse, and so are the teachings sometimes! Thats why Miaole Dashi Zhanran says:
@HongZhou1110308 I think its great that you look into stuff outside of your own school! Dōgen Zenji, founder of the Sōtō Zen school, might be of interest to you. He was also not really interested in esoteric teachings so he left his original school (tendai) and studied chan!
Past, Present or Future: the Lotus Sutra is always being expounded by countless Buddhas and yet it is rare to encounter and difficult to understand. 卍Namo Buddhaya卍
@HongZhou1110308 If I remember correctly there is a sutra which states that Manjushri doesn’t manifest buddhahood because this is the teaching ground of Sakyamuni! Mahayana do say that Buddhas don’t just manifest and teach at the same time
@HongZhou1110308 Im not that familiar with Master Linji and Huangbo so I can’t comment on their stage of awakening but when some schools speak of enlightenment they don’t immediately mean manifesting Buddhahood, the marks and turning the wheel of dharma. But a zen buddhist might know better!
"Concerning the prime,
rare, hard-to-understand dharmas, which the Buddha has perfected,
only a Buddha together with a Buddha can exhaust their reality.." - Sublime Lotus Flower Sutra
@HongZhou1110308@Vajrasuci Ahh yes the controversy about Icchantikas. May I explain it in DM‘s? It would be much easier than to put it in separate messages in a thread!
@Vajrasuci Yea the decline is very unfortunate. May the new generations be the ones to plant the seeds of Dharma again🙏
I will let you know when I have more information about the indian sangha!
@Vajrasuci If you’re interested and if its in your area maybe check out the Tendai school. They don’t have a website for the corresponding Indian sangha but if you‘re interested I could ask my teacher if the sangha is still active.
