About to take a final politics lecture for our second years ahead of their @NCTJ_news exam on Friday. What a time to be studying politics. I feel the lecture may well get interrupted.. #teamglos
A great read for anyone interested in phone in radio. “It’s become a wailing cacophony of polarisation and mutual demonisation.” Looking forward to the podcast,
My new podcast ‘Don’t Say a Word’ came out this week. What was once ok is no longer acceptable. Words, books, jokes, people. Right or wrong? And who decides? Grey areas are the new high ground. ‘Certainty’ is a curse. So I wrote this. Link in the article.

BBC Midlands Today presenter Nick Owen is recovering after surgery for kidney cancer.
It's the second time he's had cancer in little over two years, having been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023.

Dave Monk RIP. A superb broadcaster who could easily have been on network. He really cared about the listeners and Essex. He presented the funeral programme for Sir David Amess with such dignity and expertise. I will miss him a great deal.
He’s such a lovely man and an excellent broadcaster. Dave was always the man behind the mic if there was an important programme - like the funeral of MP Sir David Amess. I wish he had been allowed more time to enjoy retirement. https://t.co/VTZYDZCFTs

Two pics of James Whale which sum him up. Posing at Colchester barracks for a promotional photo shoot, all butch and glowering, and mucking around in his vegetable patch. RIP James.
The word ‘legend’ is over-used but it fitted James like a glove. He was Breakfast presenter at BBC Essex while I was Editor and his on-air personality often hid the immense kindness he could show others. He loved his listeners and viewers so much too. RIP James.
We are sad to announce that James Whale MBE died earlier today aged 74, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
As a broadcasting legend for over 50-years, James will be missed by so many at TALK and the wider News UK family.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Brendan McMillan, who tragically lost his life, alongside his father Terry in an incident on Monday. Brendan was a well-loved UoG Sports Management graduate of 2020.
Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this devastating time.💙
A story in today’s Guardian written by our second year journalism student @AlfHowlett .., More than 80% of UK farmers worried about climate crisis harming livelihood, study finds https://t.co/tAK3kM8sNp
“Amy ..found out the details of her sister Hannah's final words on the phone to 999, from a newspaper headline.
When they spoke to the CPS about their concerns, they were given a complaint form and told to return it within 28 working days - "as if we'd had our bike stolen".
The Department for Education has responded to our Save Quality Journalism Education campaign.
While they recognise “the invaluable role which journalism plays,” they’ve confirmed its removal from the list of high-cost subjects eligible for the Strategic Priority Grant.
This contradiction is deeply disappointing, and we’ll continue pressing government to save quality journalism education.
