@kenzie_school I’m the resident life supervisor for a non-profit residential treatment program overseeing admissions, community relations, resident health and wellness and our apprentice/transitional program. Keeps me busy haha
I will be graduating in May and applying to medical schools in June. During the gap year I will continue to work in addiction treatment, possibly do research on rapid recovery surgery, and spend time with my family. Good luck to all of you! I wish the best!

@md_bcs I may do some research with the orthopedic doc I did the externship with. He'd like to get some data organized and more collected on rapid recovery surgery vs. conventional surgical treatment. Finding a control will be difficult haha!

@MSimoesJunior Sounds like a great plan Milto. If you can swing the time, I would start prepping for the MCAT immediately as it is a very different type of exam. Feel free to reach out with any questions and congrats on all your success thus far.

@Shawnia18621883 Hey Shawnia, I also realized how applicable biochemistry was to the human body. It makes things like oxygen exchange in the lungs more relevant.

@DevynEnwright Hi Devyn, I have heard about PCR for the last four years of school and up until this class did not know how to perform it in the laboratory. I definitely enjoyed all the different lab procedures we learned in class, especially observing gel electrophoresis.

@selmahodzic15 I agree Selma. The MCAT has a large volume of questions revolving around amino acids including 3 letter, 1 letter and charges. It is certainly a valuable piece of knowledge, especially because biochemistry is 23% of both Chem/Phys and Bio/Biochem sections.

In this course I learned what Twitter was, and how to use it. I see it as a tool to connect with people working in the same fields, and there was a great deal of information on many topics of current science and research. I will certainly continue to use it.

@jlfair97 Nice article Julia. It will be interesting as to how they figure out how to inhibit the glycolytic pathway without affecting the many other metabolic processes. Thanks for the share.

@mpowahs7 Very interesting article Maddie. I'm interested to see what mechanism they discover as to why HIV-infected patients metabolize nicotine faster. Thanks for the share.

@selmahodzic15 Great review article Selma. It is certainly logical to see how these two diseases have a bidirectional correlation. The scientists in this article linked both to excess weight and maybe a third point of study to fix these would be a focus on obesity. Thanks.

This was a great article on the role of newly rediscovered brown adipose tissue (BAT) and its role in lipid metabolism. Scientists found large amounts of evidence suggesting BAT can extract high volumes of triglycerides from circulation in mice. #prescottbiochemistry
Hey @JamesMichalopo1 , good opportunity maybe for entry level this summer after applications for med school are all done. You can include it in the "what will you be doing during your gap year" sections of your med school apps.
