Inside Iran’s Cost-of-Living Crisis: Lay-offs & Soaring Prices
"Every shopping trip, if you can afford it, brings a great deal of anger. And when you can’t afford it, the result is malnutrition and a sense of deprivation, especially for children," an Iranian mother told me.
If Washington agrees to that, it would be a major strategic victory for Iran.
Iran would gain control over a waterway that was open before the war — while the fate of its nuclear program and uranium stockpile remains unclear.

Iranian state TV says a draft US deal would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while America would lift its naval blockade.
But it also says “the management and collection of service fees” would be decided by Iran and Oman.

Our @nytimes report finds there was a second Israeli base in Iraq's desert. At least one dated back to the June '25 war. Israel chose Iraq for these covert ops due to US role in Iraq's security affairs. The shepherd who exposed the first base was killed.

The only non-British flags at today’s "Unite the Kingdom" rally in London were pre-revolutionary Iranian flags (featuring the royal emblem), alongside some US and Israeli flags.
All were carried by Iranian monarchists protesting alongside far-right British groups.
These Iranian demonstrators, many immigrants or asylum seekers, sympathize with Tommy Robinson’s anti-immigration and anti-Islam messaging, and support US/Israeli military action against Iran.
Covered on the ground by my colleague @BBCParham.
Iran’s Supreme Leader rejects US threats
I explained that the Strait of Hormuz is now Iran’s key leverage, and unlike its nulcear program, it can be monetized.
This has become a war of endurance between Iran & the US:
not about who is stronger, but who can last longer.
Blocking the Strait of Hormuz became Iran’s strongest weapon. But after the US naval blockade, Iran realised it had to put this gun back in the holster before it backfired.
However, Iranian hardliners are not happy.
Possible consequences of a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz:
- Cuts Iran’s main oil & gas revenue
- Iran could retaliate by disrupting the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait via the Houthis
- Iran could target energy infrastructures and water desalination plants in Gulf states
- Another round of conflict, further depleting expensive US interceptor stockpiles through Iran’s low-cost drones and missiles
Long-term risk for Iran:
Tehran could be seen as a global threat which raises prospect of coalition action, similar to the Iraq War in 2003
