If you're in any way interested in #USS, you need to read Tim Wilkinson's submission to our @OpenUPP2018 series (a more worked-up version of his #JEP submission).
Crucial reading for UCU members and/or senior university managers.

Important for all T&S staff @ BBK & elsewhere!
@ucu has served notice to ballot staff at 147universities for industrial action RE the 2018/19 pay claim - twice the number of Unis involved in the USS strike!
Why VOTE YES to industrial action? See thread below for suggestions
Brilliant news from the Academic Industrial Complex: @ucu served statutory notice of intention to ballot on industrial action over pay to 147 universities today. Twice the number who went on strike earlier this year.
Look forward to seeing students and workers unite and fight.
"Universities would not function without the blood, sweat and tears of sessional staff. I think it's time they start respecting that work by paying for it." - We think so too, are you listening @BirkbeckNews ?
#UCU members, Hamish needs our urgent solidarity. Support this #SOAS student who is being cruelly disciplined for taking part in the #UCUstrike. Remember the labour of students & workers who supported the strike. Donate here:

What can casualised staff elsewhere learn from the SOAS Fractionals campaign about organising in universities for better pay and working conditions? Listen to the podcast @NotesFrom_Below to find out from those directly involved in the SOAS campaign:

64% of UG teaching @ BBK is done by T&S staff. BBK pays 1hr for contact+1hr covering 'reasonable duties'. Some joker @ BBK thinks it's reasonable to pay workers 1hr to cover prep time, lecture attendance, student communication, pastoral care etc.- lots of unpaid labour to address
We've almost hit £2,000 in 2 days! Thank you to everyone that donated. If you haven't yet please consider throwing a few pounds our way & sharing the appeal. With your help we can #CleanUpOutsourcing

Great news everyone, the structure of the academic labor market has reached such insane levels of inequity that it now resembles that of a drug gang! https://t.co/dzHi6sQtxZ
Great coverage of @IWGBunion case by @personneltoday. @HCHLopez says outsourcing 'no more and no less than a way to deny workers their rights, and it is about time we cleaned it up.' Case page: https://t.co/USOxbVJhXd @IWGBUoL@GoodLawProject https://t.co/Qx8KGSDo94
‘While vice-chancellors pay rose by 41% in a decade, academic staff’s increased by just 3%’. And they’ve offered 2% this time, less than inflation, plus a reduced pension with higher contributions. How much more can we take? @ucu@cardiffucu#uss https://t.co/xLImjV3OoY
With apologies for constantly banging this drum, but until the structural causes of the crisis of staff mental health is dealt with there isn't a hope in hell for universities helping students with their mental health. https://t.co/5XRw0zhWlw
Are you watching @UoLondon? This is the way to #CleanUpOutsourcing - by taking decisive action not dithering over irrelevant reviews. We know these contracts contain break clauses - use them!
With the scale of Tommy Robinson demos, the storming of Bookmarks bookshop, & now Boris Johnson’s Islamophobic comments, we can no longer ignore the rise of far right politics in our society. Maybe it’s time for an AntiNazi League type cultural and political campaign to resist.
'Welcome ... we may also refuse you entry at our discretion'. That's not actually much of a welcome!!! Fantastic glimpse into the dystopian world of @UoLondon as it continues to prioritise security rather than end #outsourcing
