हाल ही में संसद में मेरी मुलाक़ात दलित, आदिवासी और OBC समुदाय के छात्रों और शिक्षकों से हुई थी। बातचीत के दौरान उन्होंने बताया कि उन्हें किस तरह कॉलेजों और विश्वविद्यालयों में जाति के आधार पर भेदभाव झेलना पड़ता है।

बाबासाहेब अंबेडकर ने दिखाया था कि शिक्षा ही वह साधन है जिससे वंचित भी सशक्त बन कर जातिभेद को तोड़ सकते हैं। लेकिन यह बेहद दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है कि दशकों बाद भी लाखों छात्र हमारी शिक्षा व्यवस्था में जातिगत भेदभाव का सामना कर रहे ‌हैं।

इसी भेदभाव ने रोहित वेमुला, पायल तड़वी और दर्शन सोलंकी जैसे होनहार छात्रों की जान ली है। ऐसी भयावह घटनाएं किसी भी कीमत पर बर्दाश्त नहीं की जा सकतीं। अब इस अन्याय पर पूरी तरह से रोक लगाने का वक्त है।‌

मैंने सिद्धारमैया जी को पत्र लिखकर आग्रह किया है कि कर्नाटक में रोहित वेमुला एक्ट लागू किया जाए। भारत के किसी भी बच्चे को वो जातिवाद नहीं झेलना चाहिए, जिसे बाबासाहेब अंबेडकर, रोहित वेमुला और करोड़ों लोगों ने सहा है।
