Early start for this year's #StrictlyRE
Including an impromptu lesson on the similarities and differences between Christianity and Islam to my Uber driver!
Gorgeous start to the day in Wolverhampton as I head into Birmingham for the #StrictlyRE 2025 conference. Excited to hear from all the speakers. Always the best CPD of the year @TeamRE_UK@NATREupdate@RE_Today
@missdcox We use one of the BBC Sikhi videos about Amrit and the buy refers to it as a baptism/baptised Sikhs. I always get students to reflect on the language they use and one flagged this to me after watching the clip
@BridgetBurke2@missdcox Same... I'd start with the corr knowledge needed for each unit, then look for links/'golden threads' and add/tweak where needed, then flash out the plan lesson-by-lesson
@TeachREEthics@missdcox@RE_McGEE We start with Christianity, but I had wondered about starting with Islam instead.
I've found the ethics topics don't take as long once the student have a solid grounding in the beliefs and practices
@TeachREEthics@missdcox@RE_McGEE Me too... I find the distinctions here too arbitrary.
I also ignore the spec order and teach the 2 beliefs units first, followed by the 2 practices units.... it doesn't make sense to me to look at marriage and divorce (for example) until you understand it as a sacrament
I love how the word 'atone' wears its heart on its sleeve. It began as 'at one', because to atone is to bring back unity. Atonement is really 'at-one-ment'.
In the same way, 'alone' began as 'all one'.
Come and join our team as a science technician. Fantastic opportunity to help ensure students have access to high quality practical work @BCAWarrington https://t.co/SD7MhWl8SN
Great first and second sessions on Research around Atheism and Personal Knowledge... not just what should be in good RE, but the how and the why of sound curriculum design #StrictlyRE
Looking to the future of RE... we do lots of this already at BCA, but good to reflect on where we can develop our curriculum in light of a changing world #StrictlyRE
