26 September 1950 - On this day, the Battle of the Barricades began, the final stage of the Second Battle of Seoul. The triumph allowed the South Korean government to restore its position. Meanwhile, North Korean forces withdrew northward towards Uijongbu.
Small kit items associated with the British 1944 pattern jungle equipment. These include: soap tin, jack knife, knife, fork, and spoon set with holder. Although dated 1945, such items only really saw service post-war in Malaya and Korea, etc.
March 1951: A wounded soldier is prepared for transport to a #MASH unit at Chechon, Korea. The revolutionary use of helicopters to evacuate battlefield wounded greatly helped increase survival rates during the #KoreanWar.

During the Second Battle of the Hook (18–19 November 1952), Centurion tanks were rushed forward to assist the hard pressed 1st Battalion, The Black Watch. This jeep and 15 cwt lorry were in the way, and so the tanks ran straight over them. #KoreanWar

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 saw extensive combat during the #KoreanWar. Although the Soviet Union denied active involvement in the war, many of these aircraft were in fact flown by their pilots. The Soviet Union also trained Chinese and North Korean aircrews.

A U.S. #Sikorsky helicopter takes off from British light aircraft carrier HMS Unicorn. The aircraft was also built under licence by Westland in the UK, being dubbed the #Dragonfly. Helicopters were used extensively during the #KoreanWar for a myriad of uses.

An interesting photo of two Gloster soldiers in #Korea. The man on the right is armed with a MK5 Sten and wears the 29th Brigade ("Frozen Arsehole") patch. Helmets were largely dispensed with in Korea, the men preferring berets or cap comforters, etc.

Early post-WW2 Royal Marines insignia. The shoulder title (Note: MARINE not MARINES) was in use only briefly from the late 1940s to the early 1950s (1947-c.1953/54), when it was replaced by the more familiar "ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO".

On this day 71 years ago, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed, effectively ending three years of fighting on the Korean Peninsula. Today we pay tribute and recognize all the veterans who served, fought and died during the Korean War.

#OnThisDay (27 Jul 1953) The United States, North Korea and China sign an armistice agreement at P'anmunjŏm for a cessation of hostilities during the #KoreanWar. South Korea refuses to sign but agrees to observe the armistice.
