Attention Canadians! @BCHumanist@AbortionRights released a new report highlighting the harmful and misleading tactics of crisis pregnancy centers. Stand up for reproductive rights and demand accountability for these deceptive organizations. #prochoice#cdnpoli link below.
The Terrace Standard thinks a nativity scene is a "cultural display" that's appropriate to place on their city hall. We don't agree. Read our editorial https://t.co/a2KkFqNkVi
Most importantly, contribute to our 2022 Year End fundraiser. Because without your support, we may not even be able to keep at the pace we've been going. https://t.co/kUDqcfC0ue
We're a pretty small team on a pretty tight budget.
Add to that that this site is looking like an increasingly hostile place for humanist values (see: https://t.co/mpl0y75nbP)

“True neutrality doesn’t grant privilege to religious or non-religious views, it remains silent on the issue, and that’s one of the ways you can make sure everyone is included.”

We released our latest report yesterday: Open for Unconstitutional Business.
Nearly half of municipalities in Ontario opened their 2018 inaugural council meetings with a prayer, despite the practice being ruled unconstitutional in 2015.

This kind of content has no place in municipal council meetings, that should be welcoming to all, regardless of belief or lack thereof!
Governments in #CdnPoli have a duty of religious neutrality, and #OntarioPoli municipalities are in violation of this duty.
📢New Report Alert!
Our study identified 156 #OntarioPoli municipalities that included prayer in their 2018 inaugural meetings. This is an unconstitutional practice (as per the Supreme Court ruling in Saguenay, 2015).

We were also able to use historical data to show that prayers are becoming less common in Ontario. Many councils abandoned prayers after the MLQ v Saguenay decision in 2015.
We also wrote to every municipality we identified and asked them to respect the law. Many agreed to.
