Dr Tara Fritchitthavong says that @MaribyrnongCC receives multiple requests a week from community groups looking for a space to meet. If more schools could open up after hours, it would help! She says its early days, and she hopes #sharingschools will be more common in future.
Audience question: "We're developing a school-based community hub but have scant resources. We're working long hours. What is your advice?" The panellists ask the audience member some great questions, and give advice #sharingschools
Having welcoming and accessible foyer spaces is SO important for welcoming families to schools & community hubs, say Laurence Robinson (Brand Architects) and Caroline Menassa (Hub Coordinator, Broadmeadows) #sharingschools
Ruth Hamilton says that it creates a sense of cultural safety and respect, when children and families contribute to the design of a facility. The welcome starts as soon as the family get out of the car @OurPlaceAust@GreaterGeelong
Laurence Robinson from Brand Architects has extensive experience designing schools that function as community hubs. He recalls dropping his daughter at creche and - as an over involved father - ended up redesigning the facility. He's discussing his work on @OurPlaceAust projects.
