@CityofVancouver Massive public health incident with no city response. Over 30+ rats cavorting day and night in Napier Greenway on Commercial Drive - public park, school, health clinic and grocery adjacent. City has “logged this as wildlife day” according to 311 and plans no further action.
@dockevinmcleod Yep. Our Canadian daughter trained in UK and faces extended bureaucracy to come home. She’s fully licensing treating patients in UK instead.
@bruceanderson I’m in my 50’s now and am a very active volunteer - I have more time now with kids grown up and career well established. I think we should ask those over 50 to do community service. Young people are busy! School, careers, kids, mortgages (ideally)…
@dockevinmcleod What about making medical schools direct entry from high school like UK, Aus, Ireland etc. to reduce student cost and taxpayer cost, get doctors trained faster (could be practicing at 22 after 5 year med school)!
@dockevinmcleod 💯 our daughter is finishing her second year as a “junior doctor” (6 rotations) and another 3 years UK GP residency…she can’t wait to come back and be a B.C. GP!! But there are still hurdles.
@dockevinmcleod Also - why do we require an undergrad? We could train doctors like the UK in 5 years, they’d be practicing at 23 after high school. Less debt, less taxpayer cost, earning sooner…
@dockevinmcleod Currently a foreign trained Canadian doctor - doing a residency (a job) and having had no subsidized medical degree - is asked for a return of service! Canadian trained / subsided doctors are not!
