Being awarded a #BritishCouncil (BC) certificate by a BC teacher meant so much to local Afghans. In a land which has seen so much despair, BC programmes gave people real hope. What a shame we left the teachers behind.

#BritishCouncil colleagues lined up for dinner on the British Embassy in Kabul. I loved the #Afghanfood I had while working in Kabul. Afghans are great cooks. Let's hope there is enough food for the people of Afghanistan this winter.

Helicopters criss-crossed the Kabul sky 24/7 while I was there. @GOVUK was highly committed to its mission in #Afghanistan, as was the #BritishCouncil. Sadly we left in such a hurry, we forgot to bring the teachers with us.
Let's get them to safety.
