The most powerful buffer in times of stress and distress is our social connectedness; so let's all remember to stay physically distant but emotionally close. Reach out and connect; even a short text or smiling face on Zoom can help. Regulate, Relate, Reason.
The first school shooting I wrote about happened 10 years and 17 days ago. First-graders on a playground. Shooter was 14. One child died. It faded from front pages by week's end.
Those kids and teachers, their families, that town. They're not over it. They'll never get over it.
For #WorldMentalHealthDay, I’d like to recommend two books worth reading:
What Happened to You? by @Oprah & @BDPerry about understanding trauma rather than judging behavior. You can also find the audiobook on Audible, narrated by Oprah & Dr.Perry themselves.
The Choice by Dr. Edith Eger who recently passed away, about surviving unimaginable suffering and finding the courage to heal.
