In March 2000, an Austrian art collective named Gelitin (then called Gelatin) secretly removed a window on the 91st floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center to install a homemade wooden balcony, step out onto it 1,100 feet in the air, and take photos. The project, titled The B-Thing, was completed while the four artists held a legitimate residency granted by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, which offered empty WTC office space to artists. To pull off the stunt without security noticing, they spent weeks building a massive wall of cardboard boxes inside their studio space to hide their work.
