SANCTUARY BOSTON VS. ICE

ICE is looking to lease 249 parking spaces in Boston.

Mayor Michelle Wu admits she cannot stop private property owners from renting to the federal government.

So what’s her answer?

Use public-records requests to identify property owners cooperating with ICE — and then have City Hall contact them and pressure them not to cooperate.

Think about that.

Private citizens aren't being accused of breaking the law. They're considering renting private property to a federal law-enforcement agency — and their own mayor wants to find out who they are and discourage them.

And Gov. Maura Healey is standing right alongside Wu in opposing ICE's expansion.

This has gone beyond a disagreement over immigration policy.

When elected officials use the power and influence of government to discourage private citizens from cooperating with federal law enforcement, Massachusetts voters should be asking a very simple question:

Who exactly do Wu and Healey believe they're governing against — ICE, or the citizens who refuse to fall in line?

These are political activists occupying leadership positions.

Massachusetts deserves leaders who enforce the law — not politicians who try to intimidate citizens for cooperating with it.

Vote accordingly.
