@RobinRa37563526@ThomasLK007 All the people yelling Elbows up don't realize they walked into a fight with one arm tied behind their back. Canada buys 1/3 of its domestic consumption of goods from the states - the states buys about 3% of it's goods from Canada. They produce about 85% of everything they need.
@RobinRa37563526@ThomasLK007 The US has its own uranium and O&G sources Canada has basically been bribing them not to develop by selling to them so cheaply - then buying back the refined product at a premium. The US has facilities to transform tar sands crude into usable oil and gas - and Canada does not.
@canonandcountry@PremierScottMoe And this chaos is the result. While both countries need to reindustrialize they can do it with out being adversaries. They can mutual commitments to outsource less and domestically produce more, as part of their deals for instance.
@canonandcountry@PremierScottMoe America's (Trump's) demands aren't fair. They would destroy Canadian industries that took decades to build-up overnight and cost thousands of jobs.
The rooster has come home to roost, Canada and America made deals of mutual convenience and mutual trust over mutual profitibality.
@donnaevans88jr@Mashman78748@joe97559604 The flip side is that America can produce all of those things while paying Americans to do it. There's nothing Canada has that America does not.
@Mashman78748@joe97559604 No. It's because American Elites chose convenience over profitability in many of those instances. America recieved a lot of tertiary benefits with many of those deals that aren't written in the deals themselves. They made a lot of countries depend on a relationship with America.
@JohnnyMomo888@joe97559604 Fake news. All of those come with quotas (Canadians have to buy x billions worth of the product from the US) that have to be met before they kick in - some of those quotas like dairy, have never been met, ever.
@NotPotBol Because it's pro wrestling. Carney worked for Kushner. Trump and Carney's friends are probably cleaning up at the stock markets over the chaos caused by the talks breaking down. If the Liberals had any interest in stopping this they could always just bribe Trump directly.
@codypd The Canadian dairy product tariff is fake news. It only kicks in after Canada buys so many billions worth - but Canada also produces a lot of dairy - so the quota has never been met and the tariff has never kicked in.
@dubsy54321@DoDeportations I'm not an American, so probably. If China threatened to invade Canada I would take that far more seriously than Trump's bloviating, which is less serious than the previous US Canada Mexico mergers proposed by American and Canadian politicians in the past.
@Tablesalt13 The niche Upper Canadian elites have carved out with states has served Canada and the US well. With most of the deals being profitable for Canada and convenient for the US. The main problem is these were built on personal relationships rather than integral partnerships.
