🏆 WPIAL 4A Championship Preview
#7 Aliquippa Quips (9-3, 3-2) vs #1 McKeesport Tigers (8-3, 5-0) @ Pine Richland 12:05 Saturday
The stage is set for a classic showdown as two of Western Pennsylvania’s most storied programs — the Aliquippa Quips and the McKeesport Tigers — collide in the 2025 WPIAL Class 4A Championship Game. Both teams bring rich traditions, elite athletes, and contrasting styles that promise an intense battle under the lights.
#7 Aliquippa Quips (7–3, 3–2)
Aliquippa’s 2025 campaign has been defined by resilience. Despite facing adversity — including a late-season injury to senior quarterback Marques Council Jr. (a Yale commit) — the Quips continued to prove why they’re perennial contenders. Backed by a dominant defense and a ground-and-pound rushing attack led by running back J.J. Work, Aliquippa powered through the WPIAL playoffs with a statement 14–0 win over New Castle in the semifinals.
This championship appearance marks a continuation of the Quips’ remarkable recent run of success. Aliquippa captured three straight WPIAL Class 4A titles from 2021 to 2023, reinforcing their status as one of Pennsylvania’s true football powerhouses. Receivers like Qa’lil Goode have provided big-play potential, while the Quips’ defensive front has consistently stifled opposing offenses, allowing minimal points during their postseason run. As they return to the championship stage, Aliquippa will look to rely on their trademark physicality, depth, and championship pedigree.
#1 McKeesport Tigers (8–3, 5–0)
The McKeesport Tigers enter the title game after a dominant 2025 season, marked by an explosive offense and a perfect 5–0 record in conference play to capture the Greater Allegheny Conference championship. Led by 5⭐️ running back Kemon Spell, whose power and speed have overwhelmed defenses all season, McKeesport’s offense set a school record with 74 points in a single game against Indiana.
Quarterback Matthew Miller has been an effective complement to the ground game, spreading the field and keeping defenses honest. The Tigers’ blend of offensive versatility and defensive discipline earned them the No. 1 seed in Class 4A — and they’ll be looking to cap their strong season with their first WPIAL title since 2005.
The Matchup
This championship tilt offers a compelling contrast: Aliquippa’s battle-tested defense vs. McKeesport’s high-powered rushing attack. Both programs are known for physical football, rich tradition, and deep playoff experience.
Expect a hard-hitting, low-scoring affair where field position and turnovers could be the difference. Aliquippa’s defense has the ability to slow down even the most explosive offenses, but McKeesport’s relentless ground game — anchored by Spell and a dominant offensive line — poses a serious challenge.
