13th generation family farm, since 1639. Producing malting barley, gluten-free oats and great beer. Using close-to-nature management on our native woodlands.
The time pressure of looking after a farm, a brewery, a wife, three kids and two twitter accounts has finally caught up with me, so from now on, I'll only be posting on @Ballykilcavan. There'll be some beer stuff there, but also bits of farming from time to time. David.
If you're interested in quality Irish food, drink and the people who produce it, there's a new podcast from @SaltEarthEire called Salt of the Earth. We're featured in episode 2, and you can find the link here: https://t.co/171JwE6ea2
We're hosting a walk on the farm on January 12th as part of Operation Transformation. There's a 3km and 5km option, and both go through our 19th century underpass, up the Oak Avenue and into our native woodlands. Start is at 11am - directions at https://t.co/3KpHok0yIX
If you've had enough Christmas TV, we have a new video on our Facebook page, along with a chance to win two tickets to our beer tasting event at @TwoCooksSallins and two mixed cases of our beers. Video is at https://t.co/tZRBiaUpxg
Winter time @BKCFarm. In next year's barley field, David Walsh-Kemmis has planted cover crops to improve the soil structure (by having roots break up the soil), improve drainage & hold onto nutrients. The western side of this field is sheltered by Natural Heritage Area woodland.
Thank you very much to @ITbeerista for the lovely write-up in today's @IrishTimes. Just in time for our first brew on the farm next week. https://t.co/llBprlgrxJ
We're launching our 2018 Fresh Hopped beer in Egan's Off-licence in Portlaoise tomorrow evening. All the hops and all the barley grown on our farm, all within 400m of where the brewery is being installed. Only 1500 bottles available.
Exactly a week to go until we launch the 2018 vintage of our Fresh Hopped pale ale in @egansofflicence in Portlaoise. All the barley and all the hops grown on our farm @bkcfarm. Call in to be one of the first to try it and compare it to last year's version.
Always a pleasure to show off the farm, walled garden and brewery to groups of people. Yesterday we had a group of American students here from the CIS programme doing the tour.
Only five days to go until these Cascade hops get picked by our crack team of hop pickers. We'll be brewing our fresh hopped pale ale with them on Monday.
If you have 90 seconds to spare, could you please fill in our 2018 customer survey at https://t.co/mPwnFgahkr? We'd be very grateful and we'll put you in a draw for one of two cases of beer and two t-shirts.
We're running our hop picking day again on Sunday 7th October. If you'd like to come and pick hops for a couple of hours, followed by a bbq, beers and a brewery tour, please add your name to the list at https://t.co/pZ0eGOhfVB. We'll draw 25 names out of the hat next week.
