A Muslim man has claimed that he was forcefully converted to Hinduism while in police custody on December 14.

Fateh Uddin, a resident of Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh, said he was coerced into the conversion by Sitapur Superintendent of Police and a prominent Hindutva leader. The two allegedly threatened Fateh Uddin with implicating him on false charges of possessing arms. He claims that he was also threatened with the destruction of his whole family if he refused to obey their dictates.

Two recent PhD admits to @UWaterloo were recently killed in Gaza. Their names were Sally and Dalia. To honor Sally and Dalia, I feel the responsibility to share this beautiful picture that I received from a colleague (with the permission of my colleague).

This ugly war has already been an indelible stain on our consciousness forever and it inevitably hurts you more when there is something that connects you indirectly to the victims. I can't begin to imagine the actual pain felt by the loved ones, families, relatives, and friends of all innocent victims of this war.

Here is a portion of an email that broke some of us the news of Sally and Dalia. I will probably remember these sentences forever. I'm posting with permission from others on this email:

I just got a devastating news.

Two twin sisters who received a fellowship to join Waterloo in the PhD program for System design engineering, have been killed by an Israeli operation in Gaza.

Tamer there is @ozsu, who also has two students in Gaza. Unfortunately they were also bombed and lost their brother and one of them is injured. I pray that she recovers soon.

There is nothing to say. We cannot look away. We cannot give up hope for a ceasefire to stop this nightmare.

@JonFDanilowicz #Bangladesh is certainly on a renewal path. However, South Asia is an extraordinarily dysfunctional neighbourhood thanks to the overwhelming presence of a impossibly unstable patchwork India. Containment of India for the sake of peaceful coexistence is a must!
