I genuinely don’t understand what Amazon is thinking with this one.
A few weeks ago, sellers started noticing that Amazon is now prompting customers to leave a star rating while they are returning a product.
Think about the selection bias here.
You are asking for a product rating at the exact moment a customer has decided they don’t want the product.
Of course those ratings are going to skew negative.
Over enough volume, this has the potential to systematically pull down the star ratings of legitimate products across Amazon.
And the sellers most exposed are the ones actually playing by the rules.
If you refuse to manipulate reviews, you have no way to offset a new stream of ratings being collected from customers during one of the most negative moments in their entire purchase journey.
Meanwhile, sellers willing to use black hat tactics to protect their ratings have an even bigger advantage.
How is that good for the marketplace?
I don’t know what the logic is here.
Is Amazon trying to push more sellers toward returnless refunds?
Is there some broader strategy around its paid review programs?
Or did nobody fully think through what happens when you insert a review request directly into the return funnel?
Whatever the reason, this is another unilateral marketplace change that can materially affect the economics of thousands of businesses.
Ratings drive conversion. Conversion drives organic rank. Lower conversion means more advertising just to maintain the same sales.
And eventually sellers start asking a very simple question:
Why launch my next product on Amazon?
That is the part Amazon should care about.
We want Amazon to remain the best marketplace in the world to build great products. But changes like this make legitimate sellers increasingly hesitant to take the risk of launching something new.
This also seems like one of the easiest things Amazon could reverse.
There isn’t an obvious fee attached to it. There isn’t some massive infrastructure change required.
Just stop asking customers to rate products while they’re returning them.
It would be a small change for Amazon.
But it would send a pretty meaningful signal to sellers that Amazon is listening.
We are getting these frequently returned item badges on our brand's Amazon listings for multiple products that have under a 1% return rate in the last 30 days. It is really affecting our sales and performance. Can not get Amazon support to do anything about it. Please help! @dharmeshmehta@amazonHelp@amznsellerhelp
Help needed 3 ASIN's down due to a utility patent filing. I spoke with the CEO of the patent holder & he stated "I will reinstate these asins". No action yet, Seller Support hasn't been helpful either! Case ID 12557676911

1 month+ with no resolution. Hero ASIN listing miscategorized into irrelevant category. Thousands in lost sales + irrelevant categorisation leading to confusion for buyers.

Mr @dharmeshmehta selling on Amazon & working with SS to resolve day to day issues resemble dealing with a stubborn child. Almost every reported issue gets turned down suggesting that the seller is doing something wrong and @amazon is correct.
For more than 1 month now we can't create new PPC campaigns because our asins change their status to "Not approved" shortly after creation. We pay thousands of dollars for SAS Core program and escalated the case long time ago. @amznsellerhelp Case id 10886369311
My proposal to fix this:
Fix inventory limits for 45 days.
Allow Sellers to send inventory to maintain their limit - even if they are currently at their limit.
The amount you’re allowed to send is computed by a sales forecasting model + the time it takes to send/receive.
@amazon Why reduce our FBA inventory limits in Canada and the USA by up to 40% right before the holiday season? This makes no sense. @AmazonHelp#amazon
Did you know OTHER SELLERS can change YOUR BRAND’s images on @amazon?!
EVEN if the seller isn’t selling your particular product they can change your image! How can a platform so sophisticated as allow this! @dharmeshmehta please help with this @amznsellerhelp !
Been selling on Amazon since 2013 & co-founded a $40 million+ revenue brand on Amazon. Teaching my daughter how to build a brand & after 3 months of back & forth with Amazon, they have given us a "no path to resolution" for her account suspension. @amznsellerhelp@dharmeshmehta
Not again...
After many cases open with @amznsellerhelp we still have yet to have any aid @dharmeshmehta.
We have competitors selling COUNTERFEIT products on our listing. Selling our products much cheaper, stealing 25%+ of our sales, and giving amazon customers counterfeit.
No answers for 6 months now! Our top selling brand for over 5 years is getting less then 1% Buy Box. Sales down over 58%. Seller support can’t solve issue. 4 authorized sellers, same price, FBA. We have better reviews & rating. @dharmeshmehta@amznsellerhelp@amazonhelp@amazon
My best-selling product was moved to the "janitorial supplies" product type last year. Now I am unable to add variations or make other important updates/changes to the listing. My SAM, which I pay $3,000 a month for, has been unable to help. @AmazonHelp@dharmeshmehta
Amazon completely screwed up my UK seller verification process, destroyed $200,000 of my inventory and won’t reimburse me. I have been a compliant seller on Amazon for 7 yrs in the UK but they messed up and won’t own the issue. @dharmeshmehta
Our best seller in the UK is out of stock due to Amazon placing all of our inventory into ‘FC Processing’ for 6 weeks now! Not only are we out of stock but we are being penalized for having inventory on hand that we can’t sell! @dharmeshmehta@amazonHelp#workwithusamazon
@dharmeshmehta after hours upon hours of calls with seller support and the catalog team I’ve come to a dead end. All of my competitors have a box and a semi topless girl in their main image. BUT, when I put just the box in the main image, it gets flagged as Adult.
