The smell of fresh-baked ka’ak filled the air. Hands working together. Dough kneaded and filled, passed from one person to another, everyone with a task. Trays moving in and out of ovens. For a moment, inside our Rifaat Alareer Camp, it felt like Eid.

Eid in Gaza is not what it once was. But people still create joy where they can. They still gather. They still bake. TOGETHER.

On May 22, our Refaat Alareer Camp came together to prepare traditional Eid ka’ak so residents could share not only food, but the feeling of community and celebration that these holy days are meant to bring.

This initiative cost a total of $207 after 11% commission, covering date paste, anise, ghee, flour, cream, yeast, milk, sugar, and a stipend for the bakers.

These moments matter. They remind families that they are more than their displacement, more than survival. They deserve traditions, celebration, and memories.

The Sameer Project is raising $22,000 to provide 400 families of Palestinian hostages with food packages. We launched this campaign a week ago in collaboration with the ministry of detainees and ex-detainees and only managed to raise $4,000 so far.

The families of detainees and the ex-detainees refuse to be filmed for safety reasons, understandably so.

Solidarity with the hostages who are facing execution can’t just be with petitions and posts, they need material support. Most organizations shy away from supporting this marginalized groups because it’s deemed “too political.”

We urge you to donate and share this widely so that we can meet our goal and provide some relief to these families. Our team members report the immense mental load on these families who don’t know if their loved ones in prison are alive or not.

The repercussions of the genocide in Gaza will be experienced for a lifetime for the Palestinians who continue to experience it, 2.5 years later. HELP: https://t.co/6l9JFjXgdv Loss of loved ones, lifelong injuries, health impact from a two year + famine, and more. This is Gaza.

Areej shared with us the pain that she experiences from her loss but also from watching her son suffer from the consequences of his injury. This family, like most families in Gaza, don’t have financial or medical support. The ongoing tragedy is incomprehensible.

To provide a moment of relief, The Sameer Project continues to distribute sweets to families in Gaza. On April 2nd, we distributed 110 kilos of sweets to the Amal Camp in Gaza City, near Rasheed Street. One kilo for each family, and the total cost was $1,075, including 11% commission.

While her mother tends to the family and her father is looking for work, the responsibility of fetching drinking water falls on this young girl. https://t.co/6l9JFjXgdv She’s not in school during these early morning hours, instead waiting in line at a water truck to ensure she has something to bring home for her family.

In early February we had to decrease our daily deliveries of water due to funding - decreased donations - making it harder for those in Gaza to find water. Help The Sameer Project increase the amount we supply and give more options for access points for drinking water. On February 3 we provided 36,000 liters in the South.

Mutual aid groups have seen a HUGE drop in donations in January, and are forced to cut down on aid. Gaza is still experiencing a genocide with 32 Palestinians killed just today (including 6 children) by the military occupation, and the number of people killed since the “ceasefire” surpassed 500.

Less than a quarter of the agreed upon number of aid trucks are entering the Gaza Strip and much of it is commercial, meaning that people need MONEY to buy their basic needs. Money that they don’t have as most people don’t have income and lost their livelihood during the genocide.

The Sameer Project was forced to reduce water by 50% last week, stopped grocery vouchers for 100 families, reduced hours in our two medical points and is no longer taking individual medical cases. DISASTROUS is an understatement for the situation in Gaza so we beg you to mobilize, fundraise, donate, send emails, share and do everything you can to support our people in Gaza!
