This round of layoffs in particular it feels clear that this isn't about a recession or profit or even worker quality. It's about fear induction. Lay off a bunch of people, and you grab a bit of power back out of the fear among the remaining. It is easier to exploit them.
We also wrote a super detailed blog post diving more into the "why" - check it out if you're curious how we landed where we did!

Unfortunately, I'm one of the many folks @stripe being laid off today. If you or anyone you know is hiring researchers, please reach out! Would love any intros. Here's to what's next✨
@soupychloe I get it at Fred Meyer but I imagine QFC has it too, they’re both Kroger. Their online system is also pretty decent for seeing what they carry at any given location so you can check without driving anywhere.
@bnenf This is @theworkingnerd’s book, right? If so maybe show the cover? I think that makes its plot a bit clearer… Also doubt anyone would actually have that fear - seems more like an interesting conversation starter to me.
As of today, I've worked @riotgames / @lolesports for a decade. There are so many projects I'm proud of, so many epic events, and so many folks to thank that they'd never fit in a single tweet. So, I'll keep it simple - I am so grateful I still get to live my dream, every day.
