Tonight was a good reminder of why Egor Dëmin’s ceiling is so high.
• First, the shot profile. 10 3PAs (hit 5 3s), 7 FTAs (perfect), and he touched the paint often.
• Second, the playmaking. In addition to the shooting/scoring, Dëmin leveraged his newly developed handle & physicality to touch the paint often and spray to the perimeter for 6 assists — could’ve been even more.
• Defense & rebounding. While not as apparent as the offensive end, Dëmin’s combination of size, mobility, and IQ make him a versatile defensive piece. Dëmin took the challenge of being the Nets’ primary point of attack defender yet again tonight. He had the task of guarding James Harden who was just 1-of-8 from the floor, finishing with 12 points. Dëmin also chipped in 4 rebounds.
• Lastly, the clutch gene. Dëmin continues to show a fearlessness late in games and a refusal to let his team go down without a fight. Not only is he clutch, but he’s evidently a leader who will help galvanize his teammates and shape the next era of Nets basketball.
Plenty of room to grow in all areas but a nice glimpse and reminder of Dëmin’s high ceiling tonight.
The ball finds you when you make shots.
Feels like Egor Dëmin is still feeling his way through playing off Julius Randle and he’s deferring to the multi-time All-Star.
As the season progresses, not only will Dëmin & Randle become more comfortable together but I’m sure Dëmin will become more authoritative in running the offense/seeking the ball & shots.
Mikel Brown Jr. and Egor Demin are sharing the court for the first time in their careers midway through the fourth quarter.
That duo has drained five combined threes in the last few minutes to get the Nets back in this game.
Ian Eagle Nets games are few and far between nowadays with his NBA, NFL, and NCAA national obligations but as God intended, Ian is on the call for the Nets’ season opener.
Same starters for the Nets tonight:
Egor Demin
Keon Ellis
Michael Porter Jr.
Julius Randle
Day’Ron Sharpe
As reported, Mikel Brown Jr. will come off the bench during his NBA debut.
Thoughts on last nights NBA preseason games @EnjoyBBall:
- What a debut for Mikel Brown Jr., thought he looked great on both ends
- Are we sure Giannis can't win MVP this season???
- Starting to feel real good about my Celtics 1 seed prediction
- You guys need to seriously go watch what Jeremiah Fears did
- Have yourself a preseason Leonard Miller let's go
- Now that's how you win back a fanbase Jalen Duren
- Thought that was Keaton Wagler's best preseason game by far, looked a lot more comfortable out there
- Spurs rookie class really had a promising preseason
My main takeaways from pre-season:
•Get excited about the future backcourt of Mikel Brown Jr, Egor Dëmin + Nolan Traore.
•Keon Ellis looks like the teams best perimeter defense this season
•Floor ⬆️ with MPJ + Randle
•There will be no rim protection this season
