🚨 Black July commemorated in Jaffna with seminar and torch-lit protest
A public memorial seminar and protest were held in Jaffna on Sunday to mark the 42nd anniversary of Black July, the anti-Tamil pogrom that began on 23 July 1983 and claimed thousands of Tamil lives across the island.
Later that evening, a torch-lit protest was held at approximately 7:00 p.m. in front of the central bus stand in Nelliady.

🚨 Chemmani mass grave excavation continues – 104 bodies identified
The number of bodies identified at the Chemmani mass grave has exceeded one hundred, with more work set to continue, making the site one of the largest mass graves on the entire island.
So far, a total of 96 complete sets of skeletal remains have been exhumed over 32 days of excavation work in Chemmani, with 104 skeletal sets identified overall since the process began.

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence held a meeting this week to discuss ongoing concerns around retired Sri Lankan soldiers who are going to fight in Russia and Ukraine, as they continue to struggle economically in the wake of the island’s financial crisis.
The discussion, chaired by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha focused on the issue of former Sri Lankan military personnel being recruited on a paid basis to serve in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and pensions for the retired soldiers.
Hundreds of Sri Lankans have been killed or captured, fighting for both sides.
