The formal adoption of our national motto in 1956 was motivated by Americans’ urgency to declare our opposition to the deadly Marxist philosophy of communism and socialism.

In 1962, Congress voted to display "In God We Trust" permanently above the Speaker’s rostrum as a rebuke to the godless Soviet Union. That unanimous vote was by voice, because not one representative from either party opposed it.

Two weeks ago, we held a vote on the House floor to condemn the Marxist philosophy of socialism and safeguard election integrity with voter ID. But this time, 192 Democrats voted AGAINST the resolution.

This is no longer your father’s Democratic Party.

I have spoken to doctors & surgeons who have described Carson as one of the greatest surgeons to have ever lived for the work he did in separating conjoined twins, among other remarkable things. Democrat rule in Allegheny County skipped pension funding for 20+ years and dug taxpayers a $1.4 billion hole.

They still found $50 million for social justice programming, $400k a year for “clean needles”, a $1.1 million “equity training” contract, and a rebranded DEI office.

Then they hit homeowners with a 36% property-tax hike. Now they want to raise their sales-tax AGAIN on everyone who supports Allegheny County businesses to “rescue” the mess they made.

Another wonderful testimony of God’s grace and mercy.

The very first time I met the youth pastor, I cussed him out.

Nine months later, I was on my knees in that same pastor's home, repenting of my sin and placing my faith in Jesus!

I had a challenging childhood.

Cops involved multiple times.
Lived in a shelter home for a month.
Mom took my little sister, left in the middle of the night, and never came back.
Dad was addicted to drugs and alcohol and died when I was a teen.
School security permanently kicked me out of two high school classes for threats and troublemaking.
And more.

We had many wonderful moments, my parents did ultimately love and care for us (and I love my family dearly today), and I wasn't always a bad kid. And of course, I don't hold any past wrongs against any family member (and they don't hold my wrongs against me either, which were many).

But I've learned that my upbringing was far from normal.

People would probably think my life was destined for disaster, and in many ways, it was. Not only because of my challenging childhood, but also because I was a rebellious sinner headed for Hell since I was a culprit, too.

However, by God's grace, my mom forced me to start going to church if I wanted to live with her, and after the Lord broke me through another series of challenging life circumstances, I finally started listening and considering the Bible and the gospel.

The first time I met the youth pastor in a counseling session with my mom, I cussed him out to his face as he lovingly told me I was headed for Hell.

Nine months later, I finally understood that good works couldn't erase my sin debt before a holy God from my lying, worldly, law-breaking, lusting, parent-dishonoring lifestyle (Ephesians 2:8-9).

I knew I had no good in me (Romans 3:10-12), but that Jesus, the Son of God, lived a perfect life on my behalf when I couldn't, and died on the cross to take the punishment for my sin in my place and resurrected on the third day, ascending into Heaven to reign as King forever (1 Corinthians 15:1-5). I knew that all who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus alone will go to Heaven and be born again (Acts 20:21; 2 Corinthians 5:17). And that is what I finally did on October 28, 2013!

The cussing stopped (though it took a few months).
I actually wanted to worship God.
I hit the streets to evangelize every single week for years.
I loved the Bible and meditated on it constantly.
And ultimately, I loved and cherished Jesus for saving a wretch like me!

After I was saved, one person who knew me before Christ said I was so different, she thought I was just acting, as she couldn't possibly believe that I've changed this much!

Jesus broke through my hard heart, saved me, redeemed me, and since then, has blessed me with a beautiful, godly wife, three wonderful children (#4 on the way; I've never announced this publicly!), an amazing Christian company, a platform to proclaim his goodness, and has given me the most amazing community of Christian friends and mentors to bless and strengthen me with every step I take in my walk with Christ.

I don't share too much of my personal life, because I'd rather keep Jesus as the focus. But if the Holy Spirit used the Apostle Paul to write paragraphs about his testimony to showcase the marvelous grace of God in Christ Jesus to others (Acts 22:1-21, 26:12-23; Galatians 1:11-24; etc.), then I think we should make a practice of this too.

Even if you were saved since five years old and didn't live "a life of sin," that is still an equally marvelous story that you should share with others: that God would spare you from the pain that comes with sin and bring you into his family at such a young age. Such great love that you get to know God longer than most!

I pray this brings hope to those who think someone is so far from God that they couldn't possibly be saved.

Because in God's kingdom, it's often those that are the most rebellious, foolish, sinful, the outcasts, the unpopular, the financially impoverished, the insignificant , that are the closest to becoming born again:

"Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth. Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world—what is viewed as nothing—to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in his presence." (1 Corinthians 1:26-29)
