This is a massive mistake.

I'm not anti-library. Put the library on the ground floor. Stack 200 units of housing on top. Done.

But DC just spent $15 MILLION to plant a 23,000 sq ft library on land sitting directly adjacent to a Metro station in a neighborhood screaming for affordable housing.

They chose a standalone single-story building — and now that land is locked up forever.

The moment that library opens it becomes politically untouchable. No DC politician will EVER propose redeveloping a beloved neighborhood library in a historically underserved community. Ever.

They didn't just make a bad call. They made a permanent one.
