Madam C.J. Walker: the first female self-made millionaire. Born in Delta Louisiana on December 23, 1867. She was an Entrepreneur who invented hair products for African American women after having a scalp ailment that caused her to lose her own hair. #BlackHistory

Jazz Musician Kelan Phil Cohran (b. 6/8/1927 – d. 6/28/2017) organized the ‘On the Beach Concerts’ at the 63rd Street Beach in Chicago in 1967. Poet Gwendolyn Brooks memorialized these events that drew thousands of Black people in her poem “The Wall”. #BlackTwitter #BlackHistory

With other states using Texas as a holding ground for their slaves such as Louisiana, Alabama, and others, these slaves were not set free. Not until June 19th 1865. #JuneTeenth2021

On this day in 1865, slaves in Texas were notified by Union Civil War soldiers about the abolition of slavery. This was 2.5 years after the final Emancipation Proclamation which freed all enslaved Black Americans.
